I actually heard about this place while scuba diving the other day. Turns out that the guy leading our excursion is a part owner of Lighthouse Liquors. Anyway, my family and I (we're on a family vacation here in Hawai'i) stopped in on our way back from Polulu Valley.

Lighthouse Liquors is located in a clean, quaint, little store adjacent to a smoke shop, deli, and Mexican restaurant. The interior is very small, but not cramped. Everything was neat and well-organized, with the top-notch beer, wine, and spirits all occupying their own specific areas. All of the beer is kept in coolers along the back wall (i.e. all beer is kept at or below cellar temp).

The beer selection isn't too special by mainland standards, but this is the first beer store I've come across in Hawai'i that carries more micro-brews than just Sierra Nevada and Hawaiian local brews. Lighthouse also carries a good amount of imported craft beer from brewers like Samuel Smith's, Mikkeller, Duvel Moorgat, and others.

Some of the beers I spotted include: The Abyss, Black Butte XXI, Old Rasputin, Beer Geek Breakfast, All Others Pale, Mikkeller Black, John John (Dead Guy Ale and Spruce Gin Barrel Aged), Shakespeare Stout, Napa Smith's year-round lineup, Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Ales.

When I went to check out, the cashier talked to me for a bit about my purchase (Mikkeller Black) and craft beer in general. He seemed to know his stuff about beer, and he was very friendly to boot.

I really liked this store, and I definitely recommend it for all beer, wine, and spirit enthusiasts staying on the Big Island.

Beer prices on the islands are much higher than they are on the mainland, and the prices at Lighthouse Liquors are no exception. As far as Hawai'i goes though, the prices are reasonable.

Just found this place last week by chance, and what a pleasant surprise it was! Unfortunately it was the end of my vacation so it made no sense to stock up on great craft beers.

Excellent selection here in a small location, with a very good quantity refrigerated. Hawaiian selection was alright, but the U.S. mainland offerings were quite good, with a few semi-rare items from Europe and Japan. Prices were in line with Hawaii prices in general. Female employee behind the counter was polite and helpful. I just wish I had found it sooner, and no such place seems to exist in more populated & touristy areas like Kona or Waikoloa (that I know of).

I wish them the best, and I'll certainly return on my next visit to the Big Island, but on the first day of my trip of course!

A must stop in the town of Hawi. If you are on your way to Pololu Valley, or taking the Kohala Mountain Road (awesome drive) to Waimea, stop by and say Aloha to the people at Lighthouse.

From my experience, this place has the best selection of craft beer on the Island. A few other places have better selections of wine and liquor, but in my opinion the selection of beer outshines everyone else. Recently have had Mikkeller, Hitachino, Anderson Valley, Sierra Nevada, Rogue, and the like. It seems to me, that if the distributor is able to get a beer here, Lighthouse will carry it. I did hear that they are the first on the Island to carry Guinness FES. I need to get up there, since they have now opened the Lighthouse Deli right next door. I cannot attest to the beers or sandwiches at the deli, but I have heard good things. Please stop by if in the area for a bite, and a walk around the quaint shop, I know I will when back in Hawi town.
