A-Cascade is located in a slightly gritty area of Portland (not far from downtown). I say gritty, but the place is not a dive by any stretch. There is a decent-sized patio out front that looks on to the parking lot. Inside it is a bit commercial feeling with standard-issue "micro-brewery" decor like barrel tables and the like. The bar is medium-sized, maybe a dozen or 15 stools, and there are a few booths and tables as well. Friendly, but not inspiring or unique. It was pretty quiet on the rainy Tuesday night I visited.

Q-The Cascade beers I tried were all pretty amazing and my previous (limited) experience with Cascade has also been great, so quality ranks high. I tried Sang Noir, Apricot Ale, a fresh-from-the-barrel Cherry Bourbonic Plague, and some of their mulled, spiced hot ale, Glueh Kriek. All were great...even the Glueh Kriek.

Ser-The service was prompt, friendly, and beers were poured with care. I engaged in a bit of chit-chat, but did not get into lengthy conversations with any of the employees about beer. It mostly seemed like they know what they were talking about.

Sel-The beers on tap, as well as those in the bottle are all Cascade, but that isn't a problem because there is a lot of Cascade to choose from. I counted 17 beers on tap (half were sour, half were not sour) and ten bottles available for take away. Plus the hot mulled ale. Not bad at all.

F-I had a cheese plate that was a little short on the cheese, but what cheese there was went well with the sour beers I was drinking. The other food looked pretty good, but I didn't try any. Also, regarding the cheese plate...kiwi fruit and dill pickles on the same plate?

V-The sours are mostly reasonably priced, but sours are expensive. Also, the tasters were on the small side for the price. Not a rip-off, but not cheap, either.

O-Well worth the visit and its near Hair of the Dog and the Green Dragon, so if sours aren't your thing, you're close to other good spots.

One of (if not) the best spot I made it to on my recent try to PDX.

Vibe is just a pretty standard looking pub, nothing special, but it was easy to find a place to park and sit inside so that's a plus.

Quality is top notch. One of the better sour makers out there, and everything I had a sample of was excellent. They also had a very good selection, upwards of 20+ beers were available.

Service was great. The guy that helped us was super helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. One of the better people I've run into working at a brewery in some time.

Would come back here in a heartbeat, outstanding.

I visited Cascade Brewing Barrel House recently on a vacation through the Pacific Northwest.

V: I loved the vibe of this place with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Ser: Service was sold but nothing special to speak of during my visit.

Sel: Great selection of their standards, limited releases and a few vintage offerings.

Overall, a great place to visit in Portland and a classic. if you like sours, you have to visit Cascade when in Portland.

Awesome place. Big open area, tall trusses, many taps, 14 sours, 2 live barrels, and 8 regular beers for taps, all Cascade beers. Prices are good, compared to the cost of bottles. Bartenders are very friendly and very knowledgeable. Great beers!

Didn't get any food. Nice granite like looking bar tops, tables made from old barrels, and lots of old timey music playing, like lots of Johnny Cash. And they served water. Such a great place I went back at the end of the night!

If you're in Portland, you MUST come here. Not optional, even if you -think- you don't like sours. You haven't had a Cascade sour. They are a true pioneer, and I hope more brewers catch on to what they're creating and help this trend spread, building and growing from it. I'm amazed and their variety and complexity. Every beer is unique and distinct. And utterly delicious. The few days I was in Portland, I had to keep coming back for more and had to try a new one every single time, never being disappointed by any of them. The servers and bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, and really helpful in answering questions. The music is spot on for the location and is tasteful for everyone. The -only- disappointment was that the growlers are filled right off the tap. But, that just meant I had to get a crew together once I got back home to Utah so we could enjoy it while it was still fresh. I also splurged on some bottles - the expense was worth it because there's no place I've experienced anything like it. Truly unique. Lovely experience, and I'm making it a point to come back soon. My new favorite brewery and my new favorite type of beer.

Visited here with my wife and kids. My wife loves sours, and this is now by far her favorite place in Portland.

We had a good experience. Not the greatest place for chaotic kids, but we stuck it out anyway. Just too many alluring beers to walk away.

It's not cheap. But, it's sours, at a bar, so this is to be expected. Service was good. Our waitress was nice, knowledgeable, and fairly attentive.

Excellent place to visit. If you like sours and you're in Portland, you're a fool to miss this place.

This is a must visit in PDX, espeically if you are a sour lover (which I am admittedly, not). The atmosphere is laid back and interesting, the service is great and the selection is fantastic. Would definitely go back on a future visit.

It's Cascade - so you know it's good. Massive selection of Cascade brews I'd never had before, had 8 samples ($2-$3 a pop). We were in town for the Oregon Brewer's Festival - which was hosted by Cascade, they did a great job of it. The bartenders really know their shit - I'm a brewer of about twenty years and they answered all of my questions smartly. The food was really good too. Great spot - wish this NC boy lived closer.
