Thanks to Roberts for grabbing a growler of this for me. Split with Ben.

Pours a muddled burnt orange/brown color. Thin layer of foam from an aggressive pour. Not much for lace.

Smells of a light caramel with tropical fruit and pineapple.

A tart punch right off the bat. Sour that turns to pineapple with a caramel malt flavor in the middle that doesn't really fit with the pineapple. More sour than your typical fresh pineapple, but it works.

Drier, sour and close to a medium body. Finish is actually really clean.

Even though I'm not a big sour fan and this is a bit too tart for me, I think this works quite well. Pineapple is certainly there and I think on a warmer day, this would be quite refreshing. The only thing I question is whether the sour was intentional or not. I've had bottles of Leech Lake in the past that were sour unintentionally. This is a nice brew though and would have it again.

This trip to the brewery to refill ye olde growler was made with guarded expectations. Growler fill #1 was a one-off, which I enjoyed, but later concluded it was a batch of Blindside gone wrong. Growler fill #2, porter, not bad, but getting puzzled by the strains of similar hops and malts regardless of style. Since the last fill, I've seen LLBC beer ratings plummet under an avalanche of complaints of infection and QC issues. Still, with Pineapple Pale they are branching out. Fill 'er up.

As with most Leech beers, the pour splatters sort of lifelessly out of the growler, with an indistinct orange peel color. Low carbonation already noted. Ginger ale, this is not.

Aroma. Well, there's stuff there. Sour, yeast, bakery. Some other fruit, but it isn't pineapple. Not sure I really wanted a pineapple bomb, but if you're looking for the luau smell of pineapple, look elsewhere.

The prevailing taste element is tart. Sour oranges or what not. It isn't bad. But after reading other reviews I do wonder if the sour is intended. Pineapple comes in as an aftertaste in the back of the mouth. All right. But a little disjointed.

Lacking in carbonation, but also reasonable smell. An easy drinker.

I would not call this a boss beer or an outright triumph. Puzzled by the sour and the relative lack of pineapple and underwhelmed by the lack of bubbly. But Pineapple Pale does hit the mark as a solid summer ale. Seeing as how it's a seasonal, mission accomplished. Worth a try.
