Wow! I usually don't start out a beer review this way, but here's a whole new experience in barrel aging. Strong Scotch ale aged in a Macallan Scotch whisky barrel. There's a wee haze on the dark amber brew with plenty of foam in the Bushmills tumbler. Sensationally fragrant with that distinctive peaty aroma of single malt whisky.
Malty and fairly sweet, but buoyed up by the sudsy mouthfeel. Sharp and seriously tangy, but mellowed by that malty substance. The smokey taste is unmistakable with what must be a smoked malt enlivened by the boozy Highland peat flavor. From the 32 oz growler purchased at the brewery west of Mt. Vernon. The best beer I've had yet from my favorite Skagit County bewery.
