On draught at the brewpub, served in an imperial pint, Raccoon's IPA is a pale bronzed orange with a small off-white head that leaves light lace.
Smell is muted due to the ice cold serving temp, a soft hop nose, light apricot esters, sweet and a touch soapy.
Taste is nicely balanced but rather restrained, at least by Portland standards. Semi-sweet, with herbal minty hops and a firm bitterness. Just not a lot to this one, could easily pass as a pale ale.
Mouthfeel is super carbonated, a quick swish filled my mouth with foam, with a light body.
Drinkability, like this beer, is a tad above average, but it's really not my style at all. A whole lot more hop aroma and flavor to match the bitterness and you'd be fine, I don't mind a thin malt backbone if the hops are there, but they're really not here. Still, it's an easy one to slurp down, and cut the grease of their nacho's well.

This is a simple, honest, satisfying IPA, neither inadequate nor exemplary. It could stand a bit of a bolder hop profile, but its still OK as is. It could have a bit more body, more cream or more bitterness, or a fresher hop aroma. But its still not a bad brew. Theres not a whole lot of flavor actually and the finish is a yawn. But its not bad. It just lacks gravity and mouthfeel. Just a little. And its kind of thin and watery. But its not bad. Not really.
