2011 Project

Dark ruby color with just under a finger worth of head that quickly settled to a ring around the glass. Some spotty lacing is left down the glass.

I smell a lot of cherry upfront. Smells acidic and tart with hints of green apple. Mild oak notes round out the impressive aroma.

Truly sour tasting. Plenty of tart cherries. Little bit of funk but this one is mostly acidic. Is a bit one note. Better like cherries if you are drinking this beer.

Undercarbonated but otherwise a solid body. Needs some more life to lift the flavors.

A good sour. The cherries overpower some of the subtleties but it does deliver as promised.

750mL (2011 project) into a snifter. Pours a clear brownish amber w/ a 1-finger head that settles to a collar w/ some film across the top.

Aroma is mostly oak, cherries, and tart funk. Pretty much what I expected.

Taste follows nose. High lactic acidity, super dry oak, sweet cherries, maybe a touch of vanilla.

Mouthfeel is clean and smooth with a bone-dry finish.

Overall a solid Flanders red, right up there with any of the others that I've tried. Only problem? At almost twice the price of something like Rodenbach Grand Cru, it isn't twice as good.

From the bottle.

Appearance: Deep dark brown with red edges. Tiny off-white head.

Nose: Tart, abrasive, cherry jumps out. The nose is dominated by pure black cherry and sour lemon juice with a bit of some caramel sweetness in the background. Really nice, pure, cherry aromas.

Taste: Very sour up front with even more cherry, plenty of nice juicy green apple, and a lot of cherry warhead sweetness on the finish. It ends up being a bit one-note, but its a really nice note.

Mouthfeel: A little flat and thin for the amount of flavor packed in there.

Overall: Nice sour here. Doesn't stand up to the big classic Flemish reds, but it's definitely a nice cherry-packed twist.

Bottle (2011 vintage) to ommegang wine flute

A: very dark ruby red almost brown it is very cloudy and near completely opaque. It had little to no head and a very thin white lacing around the top

S: unfortunately there is a smell of alcohol is fairly strong that being said you can definitely smell the earthy wood from the oak barrels. There is however some fruity smells in there but they are definitely I the background.

T:tart upfront but not in a powerful way it fades fast and goes more into a fruit juicy. there is some sour tart sweetness in the finish, but it is mild compared to others I have had. It is not necessarily bad, just not great.

M:the tartness really does not have any real effect on the feel. It is more juicy like and goes down extremely easily and smooth. There is next to no carbonation so I have to knock off points for that.

O: honestly I was kinda disappointed I don't know if I just expected too much but this is a fairly mild juicy kriek, maybe with some years on it could develop more but overall impression this is good but not great it's worth a try for sure.

A - pours a murky red-brown with a very short beige head. A little lace. Too opaque to see bubbles.

S - nice aroma of oak, tart cherries, soft malt, mild lacto, mild vinegar and faint bubblegum.

T - just like the aroma, but better. Delicious. The lacto didn't leave much of a cheesy note and the vinegar is reserved. The oak adds some nice depth to the flavor. Very tasty!

M - light-medium body. Bubbly. Dry and mouth watering sour. Very nice.

O - this is a really good Kriek. I liked it because it wasn't sweet like so many of the Belgian Krieks are. The cherry flavor and sourness are perfect for me. It isn't a funky sour. I'd like to see a funkier version of this with a heavier lacto taste and some barnyard. Not to replace this beer, but to compliment it.

A - Pours a deep, blood red with a fluffy pink head.

S - Tangy & sour notes of cherries abound.

T - Sour cherries bite you from the beginning with a very light yeast notes.

M - Light, effervescent & easy drinker.

O - With the label full of cherries, you know what you're getting into. Very well done & a challenge to Supplication.
