2011 Project. 7.62% abv

750ml cork and cage bottle served in a Russian River stemmed glass.

Appearance: Deep dark red amber color with lots of fine champagne like carbonation streaming throughout the glass. Poured about 2 fingers of a creamy light tan head with a slight reddish hue. Nice retention and lacing, especially considering the style.

Smell: Tart cherries, lactic sourness, vinegar, oak, vanilla

Taste: Follows the nose pretty closely. Lots of tart cherries, medium sourness, slight breadiness and hints of green apple. The flavors of vanilla and wood are stronger in the taste than the aroma, particularly in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied. Medium fine carbonation. Slightly creamy mouthfeel

Overall: Another excellent beer from Cascade. As far as American sours go, they're the only ones I've had that can give Russian River a run for their money.

Bottle says 2011 Kriek. Poured from a bomber into a globe. Pours a dark copper/red with a quickly dissipating head, and interestingly, some bubbles on the sides to give it a "soda" type appearance. The aroma has lots of cherries and a pleasant sweetness, along with a touch of oak. The taste is fantastic, a sweet cherry flavor with some tartness and acidity. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation, bordering on too much, but still good. The sweetness and acidity were in a good range too, they can both be overdone or underdone.

A very nice beer from Cascade, one of the best cherry sours I've had.

2011 Vintage. 7.62% ABV

Beer is dark red, a bit pinkish. Smallish beige head. Head fades quite quickly.

Smell contains a lot of cherry, and a dose of balsamic vinegar. Oak. Smells a bit sour but not overly so.

Taste contains lots of cherry, and large amounts of oak and balsamic vinegar. Fairly sour, with an acetic flavour. Nice flavour. Not particularly complex, but tasty.

Medium bodied, moderately carbonated, a bit on the sticky side. Puckery.

Overall, quite good. The oak is at just the right level- clearly present but not too strong.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2011 project.

Appearance - Deep red. No real life to it. A bit of a collar but not much else.

Smell - Musty and acetic acidity. Cherries throughout but the acidity is more prevalent. Clean aroma.

Taste - Puckering sour. Cherries and a ton of sourness. Malty for sure, but no sweetness at all. Musty to a less extent than the smell. Straightforward simple sour cherry flavor.

Mouthfeel - Very sour. Good carbonation. Medium bodied. Malt gives it some heft.

Overall - Definitely one for the sourheads out there. Not a complex flavor, but it's clean and has a nice cherry flavor.

Had on tap at Naked City. Review from notes.

A: Pours a deep red color with hints of purple with a very thin, off-white head on top. This gives way to a soapy ring on top, sporadic lacing on the glass.

S: Cherries right away mixed with a vinegar tartness. There is a little bit of vanilla and wood as well.

T: Sour/tartness upfront mixed with a nice cherry flavor. There is a definite earthiness to the flavor profile, a bit of wood, and vanilla. Has a definite tannic/wine undertone as well.

M: Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation.

O: A nice sour beer, Cascade does a nice job with their sour offerings, just always tough to pick up due to the pricetag. Glad I was able to get this one on tap.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Delirium tulip at low altitude in NY. Saw this at my local bottle shop and knew I'd better pick this up on the spot.

A: Pours a hazy dark ruby red color with a prickly reddish-cream colored head that fades away quickly. Not much lacing here, but still a good-looking beer.

S: Funky yeast notes, sour cherry and some noticeable oak character. Smells delicious and makes me curious how the sour flavors will play out.

T: Fresh sour cherry notes up front followed by a long, acidic sour finish. This is definitely on the sour side of the lambics I've had, but I find it delicious. While there's certainly some funk here, it's not necessarily vinegary.

M: Medium-bodied with a prickly feel. Really complements the flavors.

O: This is one delicious kriek.

Poured at Cascade in a 2oz taster as part of a flight. Reviewed from notes.

A- Fluffy white head with nice thick lacing. Ringed but big look to the head. Orange-brown with nice clarity and carbonation.

S- Cherries and a sticky sweet, brown sugar bourbon smell.

T- Tart and tasty, cherries and alcohol esters.

M- Vinous and smooth.

O- Quite a well developed sour. Might be the best one I had from Cascade.
