Notes/Commercial Description:
"Brewmaster Ron Gansberg based this Apricot Ale on a Belgian Tripel, putting it through 16 months lactic fermentation and aging in French oak wine barrels. The apricots were allowed to slowly ripen before introduction into the beer; the beer then aged another four months on the fruit before bottling."

The nose has some light apricot smell. Very fresh smelling and bright. Some lemony tartness on the nose as well. The beer is a hazy peach color and reminds of apricots. The taste is like a fresh unripened apricot. After having other Cascade offerings, I was expecting a bit more apricot flavor to shine through. It was quite acidic, but the finish was nice, unripened apricot.

Sampled from a 750ml bottle purchased at Yankee Spirits in Attleboro, MA.

A - Golden with a yellowish tint and a big white head. The last remnants of foam lingers nicely.

S - Big apricot! Funk and tartness too. But I was surprised at the level of apricot. Very nice.

T - Wow! Super tart and sour yet the apricot flavor is right there. Nice depth, balance and complexity. One of my new favorite sours.

M - Lively from the nice fine carbonation but still smooth.

O - Pricy but well worth a try. Great to see a beer like this produced in the US.

750mL corked and caged bottle poured into a snifter. 2012 vintage.

(A)- Pours a cloudy golden yellow/orange color. Some good white froth formed and really stuck around for awhile with a light layer even until the last sip.

(S)- Big juicy apricot tartness up front. Flows into some dry oaky bits with an ever so slight funkiness.

(T)- Some good puckered acidity up front. Dry oak and subtle underlying sweetness. It finishes nicely with dry yet sweet apricots. Quite the sourness level on this too.

(M)- A good carbonation level. The acidity and sourness are definitely up there, but the apricots at the end are icing on the cake.

(O)- Definitely a hefty sourness with subtle oaky fruits, but I dig it.
