Poured a nice copper color with a small dirty white head. Nose was oak, wine, sour fruit, caramel, and some oak. Taste was a nice tartness, sour with some a mix of fruit, wood and some CO2. This was a good brew, very drinkable and easy drinking.

Corked and caged 750 poured into my trusty Cantillon Belgian tumbler.

A murky amber liquid is capped with a thin layer of fizzy white head. Thick layers of lacing.

The nose is full of musty oak, cherries, green apple, white grapes, peach, brown spice, a little funky balsamic vinegar, but just barely.

The first sip gives me a ton of oak and cherries. Some apple cidar vinegar follows closely. It's somewhat tart, but doesn't linger at all. I'm getting much more oak and brett as it warms. It finishes tart and dry.

Mouthfeel is fizzy, soft, and full.

A great beer to have after bottling beer and watching Army of Darkness. This is a very enjoyable sour and my first beer from Cascade. I look forward to trying others.

750 mL bottle at refrigerator temperature poured into a snifter.

A - The body is a muddy brown color, with an off-white colored cloudlike head formation. I don't see any yeast floaties, but the brew might be too dark to tell.

S - Lots of funky oak complexity here. All of the traditional oak-related sweet aromas (vanilla, caramel, and dark sugar) meet tart cherries, gooseberries, prunes, and just the right touch of basement funk. The wood character is pretty intriguing: almost like you're discovering a secret, treasured wooden box long-forgotten in an attic or basement. Sounds pretty lame, but c'mon, work with me, here.

T - Positively delicious. The finish is long and dramatic, with an unfolding complexity of oaky, fruity, funky, sweetness alongside a lactic, lemonpeel tart character. Remarkably well-balanced. Words can't describe how enjoyable the flavor profile and finish are. I don't break out the fives very often...

M - The carbonation is just right, which is all the more impressive considering that there are so many styles of beer being "juggled" here. As notes above, the finish is so long and captivating. It just feels so good going down.

D - Just about as good as it gets for an oaky sour beer. Supremely well-crafted and enjoyable. Beers this great don't need to be paired with anything, but if you're itching to do so, try it with an aged natural-rind goat cheese or even with hanger steak - the lactic acidity will cut right through the fat and the sweet flavors will work well with the caramelization of the meat. All in all, a delightful, drinkable sour.

750 ml corked and caged bottle purchased over the phone from the brewery about a year ago for fifteen dollars, had this along with the Apricot, Blackberry, and Kriek with four friends a few nights ago, reviewed from notes, poured into my Grimbergen goblet, color is a medium brown with some red tint, one inch frothy off white head, good retention lasting about five minutes, good lacing, aroma consists of brown sugars, raspberries, cherries, prunes, plums, funk, sweet malts, lactose, cinnamon, candied sugar, port, mild booze, Belgian yeast, oak, tannins, vanilla, and granny smith apples, one of the most complex beers you will ever smell, flavor comes at you with a few different berry flavors at first with some dark fruits taking over shortly after, sugar and spices in the middle, very quad like for a while there, lots of fruit and neutral tart in the finish, gets more sugary as it warms and there is a good amount of apples and vanilla by then, by the end there is a nice candied sugar flavor to go along with the tart flavors, sweet, tart, fruity, oaky, zesty, and sweet mouthfeel, medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, could drink a few glasses of this, alcohol is hidden pretty well for being over eight percent, there is a lot going on this beer, so the drinkability suffers a little bit from that because your palate goes on a rollercoaster, still pretty smooth and inviting, I have had this beer three or four different times now and it seems to get better each go around, definitely worth checking out

Scent of oak, yeast, caramel, sugars, fruit and sweet whiskey.

Appearance: beautiful ruby-brown-copper, slight haze, thinnish layer of off-white foam that quickly dissipates to a thin crown

Aroma: oaky fruitiness; hints of sour cherry, yogurt, blue cheese, malt, fresh cream, raisins, and armagnac

Flavor: apple tartness together with an aged/oxidized malt sweetness; oak, raisins, cooked cherries, mellow sourness, light brown sugar, and a latent spiciness; finishes semi-dry with a lingering touch of stewed prunes and a yogurty bitterness

Mouthfeel: medium body, spritzy carbonation, smooth acidity, and a slight warming in the throat

Other comments: Pretty impressive American take on the Belgian sour reds. Reminds me of Rodenbach, but I guess that's the idea.

Poured into a chalice a cloudy amber color, nice carbonation, nice little fizzy off-white head, with some sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, funky, with some spice. The taste is malty, yeasty, with some funkyness, and spice. Medium body. Drinkable, my first from this brewery and a nice one.

The Cascade stuff made a brief appearance in Boston so I snagged this puppy and poured the corked & caged 750 into a St. Bernie's chalice. Pours a fig/date colored body with a 1/4-finger head on the first pour...this dissipates to prevalent yeast wisps that I can see the Great Lakes in like it's a globe.

Wonderful mild spicing of dates, raisins and cloves with a touch of cinnamon and ginger. A little bite to it but this is mellow and decent to say the least. Slight Brett comes about with warmth.

This has a faint aroma of a traditional quad but there's a nice presence of Brett with what can best be termed as a decent fruit basket. There are not-so-ripe plums, maybe an apple or 2...and a whole lot of sour Brett bite...maybe even unripened guava here. Very nicely done - it's fresh and clean. Of course minimal if any hop presence - maybe a little citrus and grass - but this engages quite nicely. Quad spicing balances it out from being a hardcore sour. Excellent.

Palate feel is the best of both worlds - gentle spicy heft and citric bite. Finish is powerful and clean - maybe the Brett clears out the heft to make this a little lighter and brighter than expected.

This one does OK. More of a sour than a quad as ou would expect - Brett rules the roost. But it does have that nice spicy giddyap in its step. Cool $#!+!

Cloudy reddish brown with a decent off-white head.

Tart strawberries/raspberries in the nose. Acetic notes.

All in all, some nice flemish red qualities in this. Not as sour and tart as most straight flemish reds..more mellow. Cherries and other berries in the flavor with a nice touch of tartness. A touch muddy overall. Might be a bit better if they hadn't blended the barrels? Who knows? Good though.

Appropriate low to medium carbonation with a pleasant body.

Nicely done. Not outstanding, but quite enjoyable. I really, really want to try the flanders red that went into this on its own..I bet it is quite tasty. Anyway, recommended if you have the chance.

Pours a mildly hazed rusted red with a quarter-inch head of extremely tiny bubbles; big honeycomb of lace left on the glass at first, all but disappearing as the session goes on.

Aroma. Wow. I'm in love! Seriously. Seductive Belgian yeast with a mild funk character; juicy red fruits (sour cherries, Red Delicious apples, strawberries); leather; caramel; fresh-cut grass & hay; light white pepper; cinnamon bun; and above all, big tart/sour snap of Granny Smith green apples.

Flavor very much favors the Flanders sour reds noted on the label. Although I could detect some tripel and quad in the nose, on the tongue it's all about sour. Also not noting most of the elements from the aroma, but judging it for what it is, there's still some depth here. Green apples; unripe gooseberries; white grape; leather; yeast. Barrel wood doesn't come through prominently. Very dry, leaving an earthy/leafy dirtiness in the mouth with, of course, a rind-like tartness. Medium bodied and slippery, causing a massive pucker in the mouth.

Just look at the label: "a blend of select Flanders Reds, Triples and Blond Quads that have undergone lactic fermentation and barrel aging up to 18 months." It's pretty nuts--although it's definitely not something I'd want regularly, and wouldn't call it anything but "alright" on the drinkability scale. If you can handle extremely tart fruits--or just dig sucking on citrus rind--or if you love Belgium's more acidic ales/lambics, this is something to seek out.

Pours a murky, red tinged brown, with a dense one finger head that's slow to fade to a thin cap. The resulting webbing of lace is intricate, and very sticky.

Smell; there's loads of sour and tart aromas here. Granny Smith apples, lemons and cherries are all present, alomg with some mild spices. Ginger, a touch of pepper, and a little bit os vanilla (maybe form the barrel aging). One of the best aromas in a beer that I've experienced in a long time.

Taste; starts off sour, with green apples, cherries and a hint on sour citrus. Vinegar and and spices come through next, and then a surprising hint of some sweet malts come in to play. There's also a little "barnyard funk" going on as well.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, with a drinkability that's really good. But then again, I tend to really dig sour beers. Wish I could have this one again.

Now, granted, I'm still acquiring my taste for sour beers, I thought that this beer was awesome. It poured a nice copper/brown with a nice head that didn't last long. On the nose was Oak, wine, oak, sour fruit, caramel, and some oak. I thought that this was a Belgian sour that actually had some noticeable "Belgian" qualities to it. I enjoyed this a lot, I thought that it gave Consecration a run for it's money. Not something that I could drink everyday, but a great beer for what it is.

Thanks for sending, Ed. In the cuvee emerging style. Significantly sourish, and only the hint of wood,a bit more of apple, whereas say a Southern Tier would be very much reversed. Heavier carbonation,rising carbonation bubbles- good for sour fans. Colour is full opaque grapefruit, with soapy white head, and lacey.Sour malt vinegar in aroma.

A: Hazy brown, ring of tan head, very little retention, slight lacing.

S: Cider, brown sugar, tropical fruit & hints of biscuit.

T: Cider, toffee, wood & a little vinegar. I can appreciate it, but the acidity is a little abrasive to my palate.

a - similar to supplication (tasted right before), rosy/gold, transparent. 2 finger head, holding.

s - very slighly sour, balanced/w some sweetness. Some sulfur, later.

t - not really that *sour* but a nice balance of funkiness and sweet malt. More like a flanders red. Some cherry pits, a little aftertaste of prunes. Mild compared to RR or Cantillon, but nicely balanced and pleasant. Nicely funkified. No sweetness like Duchesse.

m - smooth, well carbonated, fairly high FG I think?

d - Very High! Could drink this all night. I think that's what makes this beer great is the balance. I don't remember what it said on the bottle (review from notes) but it must be blended to get this type of balance. Looking up I can't believe it's 8.4% ABV. Wow.

Bottle shared at local BA tasting.

Poured a hazy copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy tart cherry and yeasty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration.

Pours brown in color with a nice, frothy inch of head. Smell is lactic and sour. There's a good amount of cherry flavor coming through from the flanders. This beer starts off fruity and spicy, then slams you with a sourness at the end. Very enjoyable. Didn't notice too much impact from the barrels. Full and creamy on the mouthfeel. Very enjoyable, and I never tired of it during the entire 750 bottle.

Received from thethrone in the Barrel 'O Beer BIF.

Hazy reddish brown colored beer with only a slight off-white colored head.

Smells fruity with a strong vanilla and oak aroma. There is some sour and funk here Brettomyces? I know this has undergone lactic fermentation but since Flanders red is in the mix there must be some Brett in this. Smell of strawberries and some spice mostly ginger. Little bit of lemon scent.

Taste starts out sour with a strong vanilla flavor and a slight horse blanket flavor of brettomyces. Fruit and vanilla ice cream aftertaste. Quite sour but without the vinegar taste that I find objectionable, more like Berliner Weiss. Matter of fact I could describe the taste of this as Imperial Oak aged Strawberry Berliner Weiss.

Mouthfeel is good.

About as drinkable as sour beers get for me, no matter what the style says sour = spoiled for beer in my mind.

A - Almost clear orange amber body with two finger of tan head that leave awesome lacing

S - Sweet and sour fruit. Small hints of funk and sweetness. Can smell from a distant as well especially right after a pour.

T - OAK lots of oak. Reminds me a lot of the Cascade Kriek but more a generic fruit flavor and a little more sour.

M - Medium body with medium carbonation

D - Awesome stuff. Very easy to drink and very enjoyable.

750ml bottle at 50 degrees, $23.00 from Malt and Vine.

Pours hazy amber with a ruby hue. A one inch head of quickly fizzling off-white dissapated to a placid surface with zero lacework.

Aromatics lead off with soured fruit, sherry vinegar, and acid-spritzed hay. Hints of cherries, lemon zest, grapefruit pulp, and horseblanket follow through.

Medium bodied and crisp with a sharpish mouthfeel.

Tart fruit, malt to balance, and a sour edge lead off the palate. Cherry pits, lemon seeds, oaky tannins, and clean acid.

Finishes with lingering soured cherries, drying acid, and a peppery warmth.

Quite tasty and highly drinkable for a sour. Lacking enough Brett, sourness, or acid for my tastes. There definately is a Kreik presence, and the beer is bone dry.
Think LaFolie "light" with cherries. I'm kinda bummed that this one was $23 with shipping.

Roomie works at Brouwer's and brought a bottle home.

Pours a light orange with an amber hue...a bit of a head is seen for a moment, and then mainly dies quickly. Sour orange, funk, wild yeast, and lambic smells are had within the nose. Fairly funked up front with a nice sour green apple note, this one isn't as thick and syrupy as some sours could go...lacks a bit of body, but retains itself with a strong sour flavor complete with hints of oak and light touches of super sour cherries.

ABV is not all that detectable until the finish.

Overall, one of the better Cascade brews I've had, but still lacks a bit of the thickness I love in a good sour.

A solid pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a two-finger thick, light tan colored head; the head leaves some nice layered lacing patterns on the sides of my glass as I work my way through this beer. The beer is a lightly darkened, amber color that shows a lightly hazed, red-tinged, light amber color when held up to the light. The nose has a nice tartness to it that is most definitely lactic in character. The tartness brings out an unripe, green fruit note that is a bit reminiscent of crab-apples, tart plums, or an unripened pear. There is a touch of cracker like malt hidden underneath the lactic aromatics and perhaps a hint of cherry aromatics towards the finish, but overall this is pretty simplistic and not very complex. The tartness is nice though, just nothing to particularly rave about.

Nicely tart tasting, but not overly dry. There is just a touch of malt sweetness (a combination of toasted caramel and dark fruit notes) as well as a fairly substantial body for a sour beer. I wouldn't say this is thick and chewy, but it certainly has a certain viscousness to it as well as some malt body to counter the ample tartness. Fruity flavors of sour plums, tart but slightly washed out cherries, a black currant note as well as some red-wine like notes that are accentuated by a solid oak-derived backbone; each of these notes couple pretty seamlessly with the lactic tartness. The oak provides a nice toasted woody note to the finish as well as some spiciness in the middle and there is definitely a tannic note as well as a body-boosting oak effect. This beer hides its alcohol quite well, there is a touch of heat to the finish but this all seems to come from the oak and not any alcohol.

My second pour sees a touch of vinous character coming out in the nose, more like an oaky chardonnay than a red wine; in fact I don't know how I missed the oak character the first go round as there is a definite oak-derived spiciness and a toasted wood character here in the nose. The fruitiness in the flavor gets a boost as well. This is a nice smoothly drinking beer. It is very well balanced, if not a bit mellow and is fairly clean fermentation wise; there is the sourness, but that is it in the way of funkiness. The finish of the flavor has some nice toasted malt notes and some biscuit like character that couples with the toasted oak quite nicely

This is a nice beer, it does not have the complexity of the Sang Royale (especially in the nose, but this certainly gets better after my second pour), but it is far better than The Vine. Some Brettanomyces funk would certainly be appreciated, but this is more approachable this way I suppose. This is certainly an enjoyable beer to be sipping upon as I work my way through a bout of bill paying. Honestly though, this ends up being much more enjoyable than I was expecting, this is a nice beer I would be happy to have a whole lot more of in the cellar.

This beer pours with an amber tinged, tan colored head that sits on top of an amber colored beer. The aroma is a complex mix of fruity notes, tart lactic acid, lightish funk character and grain. Aromas similar to cherries and tart plums provide the bulk of the fruit notes but there is also some aromatic-varietal apple character here and even some tart apricot notes become noticeable after a bit. The grain aromas contribute a solid cracker-like malt note that one typically doesn't find still hanging around in a sour beer (but I have been noticing this more and more from American versions). The funkiness, other than the sourness, is pretty muted in the aroma, but does contribute notes similar to musty, slightly moldy hay.

The beer is fairly tart as it first hits my tongue, but it is quite balanced. The sourness seems predominantly contributed by Lactic acid. The sourness combines with fruity notes to produce flavors of tart cherry and apricots. There is also a light plastic edge to this beer, as well as some other sharp phenolics; these notes are fairly soft and are not overly intrusive. There is a significant herbal character here as well that reminds me of tannic, wild, weeds somehow. A cotton ball like, tannic character coats the palate after each sip has left my mouth. This beer is fairly light, but there is a full, lingering presence to this beer. There is also a touch of warming alcohol to the finish. This is actually a nicely balanced beer, I am definitely enjoying this.

A-Pours a clear golden amber with a thin white head and little lacing.

S-Nice complexity. Serious funky sourness, mild brown sugary sweetness and a fresh herb/spice combo.

T-Very nicely tart but with a background of sweet, dark fruits and mild sourness in the finish. Delicious.

M-Tartness lingers nicely with just a bit of pucker.

D-Tasty, but probably a bit high in ABV to drink more than one of. Deliciously complex for one snifter's worth, though.
