The beer is ruby / garnet hued with a finger or more of lacing after a careful pour.

The aroma offers barnyard funk, oak, and sour cherries, vinegar, booze. Complex and intriguing...

Bold flavor and highly enjoyable. A lot of cherry flavor really shines through. Misc. dark fruits, oak, wine, wild yeast. Yeah baby. Acetic without being harsh. Again, complexities abound. A delightful sipper. One of the better brews by Cascade.

2009 bottle poured into a snifter. Murky dark brown color with a slight reddish tint with a thin tan head that leaves generous lacing on the glass. Carbonation appears to be moderate. This one starts off smelling FUNKY! Really earthy, barnyard smell, tobacco, oak, pepper, a hint of fruit. Initially offensive, but opens up into all kinds of interesting aromas. Starts off with a tart cherry flavor, mouth puckering, definite oak presence with some white pepper, blue cheese, red wine vinegar, followed by a medium dry finish. As it warms up dark fruit and chocolate start to emerge an increase in intensity. A lot of wine presence in this beer. There are so many layers to the flavor and mouthfeel it is hard to wrap your head around, but it is pretty fun to try to figure it out. Very happy I got the chance to get a bottle of this and would love to revisit.

Served in a snifter, thanks Dan for sharing!

Dark tan color with a reddish glint, transparent and frothy around the edges. Some apple butter, grape and slight balsamic traces in the aroma. Seems very similar to the La Folie vertical we had earlier.

Acetic sourness, grape and oak barrel notes, sour but still plenty drinkable. Crisp and clean, light funkiness that clears up quickly and doesn't linger. Abv is completely hidden. Overall a tasty Flanders Ale, pretty biting and sour for the style, but enjoyable nonetheless.

From 02/11/12 notes. Had at a local Cascade tasting. Poured into a tulip.

a - Pours a dark reddish brown color with two inches of fluffy white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of sour dark fruits, tart cherries, brett, wine, oak, fruity malts, and light vinegar. Really nice, sour nose, I love it.

t - Tastes of tart cherries, vinegar, oak, tannic, sour dark fruits, and wine. Not as sour as the nose, but still very nice.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Acedic body.

o - Overall a really nice sour, one of the better Cascade beers at the tasting in my opinion. Nose is very sour and full or dark fruits. Would love to have it again.

Appearance: murky ruby-brown with decent head and lacing

Smell: vinegar, oak, cherry, brown sugar

Taste: Slightly earthy, oak, tart cherries with pits, vinegar, brown sugar

Mouthfeel: medium-heavy body, medium carbonation

Overall: tasty, but I feel most of the darker wilds from this brewer tend to be slightly muddled.

'09 Project

Pours murky reddish color with a small red-tinged head that dissipating quickly.

Smells wonderful. Lots of the grape aroma comes through although smells more like a medium bodied red as opposed to something incredibly dry. Some strong tart cherry, oak and some other dark fruits as well.

Wonderfully complex taste. This disappeared from my glass very quickly, but even in that short time frame, every sip was different. At some times, I could have sworn I picked up a glass of wine and at others, the intense sourness shone through.

Medium mouthfeel with medium carbonation levels.

Fantastic and am going to have to resist the temptation of popping my other one too soon. Very complex flavors throughout and sometimes wickedly sour, which is a trait I like.

2009 Vintage poured into a sniffer.

A: From initial opening of the bottle foam slowly filled the top of the bottle and poked out of the bottle spout. Oddly when pouring there is not much head, and what head is there faded fast. The beer looks like a dark murky brown with a light white film of head.

S: The first smell of this beer is so crazy, you can tell from the first sniff this baby is going to be sour. Major influences of the wine barrels and wine grapes in the nose. A touch of sour cherries in the nose too.

T: Such a complex sour, from one taste its tarty, the next its very sour, the next you think you might of took a sip of wine.

M: This had a very good mouth, left my mouth feeling very soured.

O: This bad boy is a rough sour, just the way I like it. I am going to see how long I can save this one. I dare say this one may be better then what comes out of RR.

Notes from the southsound tasting.

A Pours a nice ruby color topped off with a small off white head.

S Lots of brett barnyard funk with a tart cherry note present.

T Lots of cherry with a more subdued sourness then many other sours out there. A bit of a hint of lemon zest as well to keep things interesting.

M Lots of carbonation on a light but full body which is perfect for the style.

Overall a very good wild ale that was a pleasure to drink.

From South Sound tasting notes:

Poured a ruddy brownish-red with a small eggshell head. Powerful, tart cherry aroma mixed with oak and slight funk.

Lots of carbonation and a full, creamy mouthfeel. Less puckering than the aroma would indicate, with sour cherry, lemon, malty oak, and hints of dark fruit. Lingering tartness on the finish.

Very tasty and not as boozy as the ABV would indicate.

A: Poured a murky reddish brown color with a small fizzy light tan cap

S: Oak, tart cherries, some Earthiness and light booze.

T: Taste of sour cherries, oak, light bourbon, caramel and yeast but I did not pick up any dark fruits in this, perhaps some dark cherries in the mix with the unripe and red cherries

M: Medium bodied with nice carbonation and a creamy but tart finish. A sherry, port wine feel to it

O: Good
