20 IBU
"A one-off seasonal from the brewery, this rich, full-bodied Porter is fresh-hopped with over six lbs per barrel of Nugget hops from the Weathers Family hop farm. The sweet, dark chocolate malt profile is balanced with a dank hop bite from the fresh hops. This beer is limited."

On tap at Elliot Bay Pizza on 12.2.12.

A - Served a dark opaque brown with a nice tan foamy head with good retention.

S - Mostlynroasty and toasted malt, but some nice hoppy bitterness as well.

T - The taste is similar. Lots of toasty malts, chocolate and coffee with a solid hop bitter bite behind it.

D - Good carbonation with a medium body and a bitter finish.

O - A roasted porter with a strong hop presence.

First had: on tap at Cascade, Portland, OR

Poured a clear dark brown with lighter brown highlights, and a small tan head that receded to a patchy layer. Didn't get too much from the aroma: light malts, and some piney hops. Taste was pretty bland I thought, with flavors of grains, dark malts, nut shells, a bit of tobacco, with the hoppage contributing a grassy profile. Okay, but not too tasty. Medium-bodied, and fairly easy to drink despite the overall blandness.

on-tap, Special Brews

appearance: served in a schooner, dark brown body, pretty placid carbonation

smell: roasty - dark malt, cocoa, espresso. Complimented with a touch of fresh green hops

taste: probably an average porter but nicely complimented by the fresh hops - dry roasty body - cocoa, espresso and char. piney green hops, a nice variation on the fresh hop movement

mouthfeel: medium-light body for the style, moderate dry bitterness

overall: good, but not overly exciting

Poured into beveled pint @ Bier Stein

A - Pours a deep black/brown w/ subtle ruby edges, 1 finger thick tan head persists and fades to a thick cap that leaves light lace behind in the glass.

S - Very difficult to pick out anything in the nose at first. Pennies, but as it warms the metalic aroma fades. Grassy hops, some biscuit and roast, raisins, light chocolate, subtle sweetness, and faint alcohol.

T - Like the nose it is difficult at first to get anyhting here. The metalic is in the taste as well and fades w/ warmth. Dark fruits. Chocolate, coffee, sweetness, herbal/earthy hops, touch of orange.

M - Medium-full body, dry roasty finish, smooth w/ slight acidic/astringent bite, light carbonation.

O - Not bad, but not great either. Too roasty for a porter, metalic taste/aroma are quite offputting, but fade as it warms. Hops fade quickly, the taster I drank first had a bright hoppiness in the nose, the pint had nearly nothing.

Stopped by the barrel house today to pick up a couple bottles of sours and saw an empty growler sitting on the bar. "You do growler fills?" I asked. "Not the sours." Was the response. "Too buy one of ours its $18. For your own, its $14.". For this exact reason I keep an empty growler in the trunk. I went outside, grabbed it, and had it filled with this delicious one off.

Pours medium brown with mahogany highlights into my Duvel tulip. Extreme clarity is really remarkable. A big fluffy yellow pine head dissipates slowly until a thin wispy cap remains. Sheets of lacing line the inside of the whole glass.

Light amounts of cocoa and grassy/piney hops are all over the aroma.

Bitter chocolate and light roast coffee are typical in American porters. This is no exception. The addition of the zesty citrus hops that show up as this beer warms set this apart and really make it unique. A light lacto quality help round out this exceptional porter.

Thin, softly carbonated, and surprisingly dry, this is solid.

I drank a whole growler in one sitting! What does that tell you about drinkability?

Back from the barrel house... and they tapped a fresh hop porter... so I had to grab a growler with the newer logo... and take it home to try!

- Nice fizzy silky light mocha head... a couple fingers.. left lacing all over... little slew on top.. Dark red/brown brew... obviously not pitch black like some kind of an imperial.

- Oats, sweet grain, biscuit... roasty bread... chocolate.. light bitterness.... floral light hop... light hops, balanced...

- Grassy blanket of earthy hops ride over a blanket of grains, oats, and sweet grits... very balanced, smooth and tasty. Almost a hint of tobacco, cane sugar, and cocoa..

- Light bodied with a slightly creamy feel... slightly drying...

- Overall a fantastic Porter.... the fresh hops don't play a major role here... but maybe add more to the earthy and grassy character hops can give. Porters are not know for late hop additions for aroma... and this still doesn't have much aroma in the hop department.
