"This oak aged strong blonde was aged for an additional five months on 150 lbs of sour pie cherries, then spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg to highlight the tartness of the fruit. This is a rare treat of what is essentially barrel aged sour pie cherries in a glass."
On draught at the barrel house, served in a small chalice, Spiced Cherry Blonde is pinkish orage with a small off-white head that leaves scattered foam.
Smell is awesome, wow - this big sour cherry cherry pie, like a candle or potpourri or something.
Taste is also great, although not as bright as the nose. Well balanced fruit and spice, tarter then I expected, presumably from the cherries rather then lacto. The only complaint is that it's got of slight bight of husky graininess, which, after tasting, I can detect on the nose as well, where it is in fact more pronounced. I'd never noticed that in a Cascade beer other then the Beckberry beer I just had previous, which used a unique strain of brett to which I attributed that bite...I hope it didn't infect the whole barrel house, that would be an unequivocal disaster!
Mouthfeel is soft, a bit slick medium-light bodied.
Drinkability is great, this is one exceptionally tasty beer. In spite of the bit of huskiness, I was loving every drop, and was really impressed with how well they captured the essence of cherry pie, in a BALANCED manner. One of the best I've ever had from Cascade.
