This NW style sour ale is a blend of blond ales aged with four different varieties of fresh apples. It was then blended with vintage apple beer and additionally aged. Sweet notes of apple flesh with hints of cinnamon greet you in the nose. Crisp apple skins and sweet malts with traces of lemon on the palate finish up with sharp apple tartness, cinnamon and a lingering essence of graham cracker in the last sip. This is a nice summer sipper or late night refresher. The apples used were, in order of quantities, Fuji, Jonagold, Granny Smith and Red Delicious.

Yellow appearance, 1/5" white ring of head. Smells just like green apple pie. Nice.
Taste, more apple pie, truth in advertising right here, cinnamon, crust, apples, I mean its all there and the mouthfeel is kickass coverage of the alcohol.
This is one of those beers they should bottle. Would bang this at $20 a pop.

A: Poured a dark yellow with good carbonation leaving a nice white cap
S: Fresh apples and hint of tartness
T: Fresh red apples and some funk with biscuity notes. No vanilla, oak or bourbon. As a matter of fact not much on the sour side.
M: Nice apple presence, light booze and body.
O: This beer would be a slamdunk as traditional fruit beer but knowing the complexity that should be this beer falls way short.

Truest name ever created: Apple Pie. This is like drinking apple pie, seriously. Yellow colored beer, thin white ring, some clingy lace, but not much, but relative to style, plenty.
Nice tart, sour apples and cinammon in the smell. More of the same in the taste, a twist of vanilla with it, a little more sour than mom's apple pie, really plays up the green apple here, plays all so well together. Hides the alcohol so well. Very well done. Cascade is the pre-eminent american wild ale with fruit maker around.

On tap @ the Cascade Brewing Barrel House (Portland, OR) on 9/4/11. Served in a teardrop goblet.
Pours a hazed apricot, with a thin layer of bright-white head. This retains with some frothy edges and thin wisps that dot the centers of the glass, leaving back a rich and foamy cascade of lacing that quickly slides down the sides. The aroma smells like apples, with even a dash of cinnamon being present. There also appears to be somewhat of a deep, almost lemon, smelling tartness to this, while sugary malt sweetness is pretty much buried along the back of the nose. I’m pleased to find that this is all about the apples though for the most part.
The taste is apple juice and sugars, which mingle with some tarter lemon notes on the edges. You do get a little bit of the cinnamon flavor across the back. This finishes dry with lingering lemon tartness and just a smidge of residual sugars that hangs on the tongue a bit. The mouhtfeel is medium bodied, with a lively carbonation that dances that combo of tartness and sweetness around in the mouth. The 8% ABV is just magnificently hid here.
This was enjoyable. There wasn’t a ton of complexity to this, with just mostly apple, lemon, and sweetness making itself known. I did like however that they kept the emphasis on those juicy apple flavors and an overall tart feel that gave this a certain amount of crispness on the palate and made this quite drinkable for having a higher ABV. I’m glad that I decided to go for a glass.

Aroma consist of apples and a slight tartness, but little else.
A simple, though very good, sour. The flavors consist of apples, bread, some light spice (cinnamon or nutmeg), and a mild sourness.

A mild apple sour. I wish there was more apple and more sour.

A: The beer pours a clear golden color with a small white head.
S: Smells like apples, so at least it's got that going for it. It's slightly sweet and only slightly sour. There are notes of straw and grass with a mild oak aroma. A pretty simple nose on this.
T: Moderately sour with lots of straw and grass. There is some apple flavor, but it's not all that powerful of a flavor. A mild oak note as well as strong lactic and lemon flavors.
M: The body is fairly light with medium carbonation.
O: Nice and drinkable, but it didn't really blow me away and didn't have as much apple character as I was hoping for.

On-tap at Beachwood I,
A: Pours a lightly hazy, translucent goldenrod, with a medium white head, good lace.
S: Kind of on the light side, but what's there is good. Apple and cinnamon spice.
T: Green and yellow apples, with some cinnamon and winter spice. Very much a spiced cider flavour with a lot of lemony lactic acid.
M: Medium-bodied, light acidity feel but it provides a good backbone to the beer, prickly carbonation.
O: Apple beers are always fun to try because they seem to bring a festive flavour. Fans of spiced winter cider will love this.

Mildly hazy yellow, this beer has a thin white head that slowly recedes to a ring leaving a little lace. The nose has a blend of white wine and spices, with cinnamon and coriander, brown sugar and apples. The apple character is deep and complex, much like a fresh (non-alcoholic) cider. Mildly floral aromatics are present. The palate opens quite sour with more lactic sourness than I was expecting. There's a prominent oak character as well. Spices appear mid-palate, and the apple character is a little whelmed here. Apples appear on the finish, more cidery with a Granny Smith appple like tartness/ Definitely less complex than the nose, thanks to the enhanced sourness here. Drying, lactic tartness is present with plenty of oak. Not much vanilla is present, though. Light in body with a medium-high level of carbonation, this is solid stuff. It really does taste like a soured tripel.

Poured a cloudy, dark yellow with a thin white head.
The aroma is of apple, with light spice and breaded malt notes.
There is more apple and breaded malt in the nose. The apple is both tart and sweet. Light notes of cinnamon compliment the breadiness and give a very pie-crust feel.
Light bodied, with a bit higher carbonation than desired, though it does give a pleasant, crisp finish.
A very nice, drinkable beer. It does live up to the name, as it is essentially apple pie in beer form.

Pours a hazy yellow golden color with a small white head that leaves a light web of lace on the glass.
Smells like fresh Granny Smith apples and lemons; the sourness really comes in, but doesn't overwhelm compared to some of their beers. Spices like cinnamon are noticeable, but light.
Very strong sour apple flavor with some cinnamon and lactic acidity. Spices and a little zest add some complexity. Tastes like a sour apple tart.
Smooth and rich with a medium body and light carbonation. Acidity shocks the palate without destroying it.
Another winner from a brewery that really knows its wilds. Sour, sweet, and just a little spicy, making this a great beer, especially for those new to the style.
