Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Strong blond beers were aged in fresh Chardonnay barrels for three months and then additionally aged with dried Adriatic white figs and Spanish lemon peel. Aromas of sweet malts, figs, raisins and citrus zest greet you in the nose. Hints of Chardonnay grapes, lemon peel and sweet figs roll across the palate, leading to crisp lemon sharpness in the finish that will leave a lingering sweetness on the tongue.

Purchased online, 2012 Project.

A- hazy to cloudy orange with a 1-2 finger head of foam that persists like crazy. Lacing? Yep, it has it.

S- I can definitely smell the Chardonnay Oak Barrel aging used. Super sour fruity aromas, a hint of vanilla, not sure if I get any of the white figs mentioned on the label but I am not that familiar with 'em.

T- fruity sourness out of the gate, some kind of weird but nice flavour, white figs?, mid palate and again in the finish. I'm now tasting some of that lemon peel citrus that brings more dryness to my taste buds. The abv is on the high side, imho, but doesn't interfere with my enjoying the brew. Even say, at a much lower abv, I think one 750 at a sitting is enough. I love my sours but pretty much in limited quantities so I can look forward to my next go at one.

M- medium bodied, lively carbonation(there was a HUGE pop when I pulled the cork out and I did lose an ounce or two from this straight from the fridge bottle)

O- Beers like this keep making me turn to Cascade for my sour fix. Whether I order directly from the brewery or from an online store, which I used because I also got to order their Tangerine Dream that was not an option from the brewery's online store.

2012 Project

Poured into a tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.

Pours a nice somewhat cloudy golden color with some orange hues. There was a nice half inch medium dense head that forms. It recedes pretty quickly.

Aroma is a nice lactic sour note with notes of lemon and some tart vinegar. Citrus fruit notes with a slight background of sweetness. Mild ripe figs and some slight earthy wood in the nose. Aroma is tart and very vinous. Delicious white grape notes with some slight funky wood as well.

Flavor starts off with sour sour notes. Lactic sourness with some nice lemony notes. Lemon juice and lemon peel a plenty. Then the tartness is cut back by some nice fruit juice sweetness. Notes of grape juice and wine with some good sugary fig notes. The flavor has some nice woody oak notes to it mixed in with the great blend of tartness and sugary fruit sweetness. This is a great brew with some nice chalky yeast notes that are noticeable as it warms. Nice funk notes are present as well. Mouthfeel is well carbonated with a great tart and dry finish.

Overall. Cascade rarely disappoints an this is a very good one. Yummy wild tartness with some good citrus and lemony notes. Then some good slight fruit juice sweetness and a good dry earthy funk.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Urine yellow. Brief flurry of bubbles and then not much else.

Smell - Fruity. I'm not really able to differentiate the fig in this, but I'll go with it. Kinda citrusy.

Taste - Very sweet. Lots of stone fruit sweetness. Apple and I guess what could be fig. Not a lot of sour, but what sourness there is arrives just in time to cut the sugars.

Mouthfeel - Way too sweet for me and not enough sourness to balance it. A little boozy.

Overall - Not an impressive offering from Cascade. Too sweet, not enough sourness.
