This easy drinking Northwest sour ale features a spiced rye base beer aged in oak wine barrels with candied ginger and lime peel followed by a late addition of fresh ginger, lime and wildflower honey. Lightly sour with a kiss of honey sweetness, the Cascade HGL offers the perfect balance between complexity and refreshment.

A: The beer is hazy amber yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with just a narrow collar of white bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of lime are present in the nose along with notes of ginger and hints of honey.
T: The taste is a little sour and has balanced flavors of ginger and lime.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and somewhat tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is hardly sour at all and has a nice balance between the ginger and lime, particularly in the taste.

Pours light orange or amber, with a fizzy head that clears quickly. Smell is prominently ginger accompanied by lime. Taste is a balanced honey, ginger and sour lime combination that is thin but pleasing. A nice brew on a hot summer day.

Nice, approachable barrel aged sour ale. The whole thing gives a little bit of a Margarita vibe without getting overly.sweet or syrupy. Enjoyable drink

Rich golden drink with a thin white head.
Tart lime on the nose
Taste delivers a nice hit of lime.juice and ginger heat over top of a lightly honey sweet malt base and a subtle lactic acidity.
Feel isn't heavy but is kind of slick.

Pours a light yellow with some haze, very thin 1/6" white head that barely sits on the top, but don't let it fool you, it is plenty carbonated. Aroma came off like a ginger 7up. I don't mean that condescendingly, I liked it, it was refreshing.

Taste, what a good mix of acidic green fruit, both lime and flavors of kiwi seem to dance nicely with the ginger and honey. There is some non hop derived bitterness to the beer, plenty acidic too, which kiwi and lime, how can you not? I came into this beer with low expectations, but its a neat little banger, kind of precursor to Rare Barrel's Sourtooth Tiger. Its a good beer, hides alcohol easily (one of the things Cascade does best).

So, on one hand, I think its real good, but if they ever bottled it, I dunno, it would prolly be $25 or more and I don't think its quite good enough to be in that territory. I'll have to stick with festival and barrel house pours if that ever happens.

This beer has a haze that quickly clears up to a lighter amber with a thin, fuzzy collar.

Ginger is bright and spicy up front, with herbal lime behind it and a floral potpourri that's almost like cleaner.

Before I got a chance to dig in, the old lady said it was very sweet. Sure enough, it is...so I guess this is why all the basic bitches kept ordering it left and right. The flavor profile starts with honey and light graham followed by lime, while the ginger is lighter on the tongue than it smells. It seems closer to a mead than a wild ale.

Slick, round, smooth and semi-dry, it's kind of like a weirdly herbal key lime pie that I'm just not into.
