On tap at Hunahpu Day. Served in a wine glass.

Appearance - Deep reddish purple. Small white head.

Smell - Blueberry and malt. Mildly acetic. Floral, too.

Taste - Sour dark fruits. Sweet malts. Kind of a generic berry more than a distinct blueberry. Oaky and extremely floral, maybe spicy, in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Moderate sourness.

Overall - Not sure what's causing that floral component, but I like it.

barrel house draft on a balmy summer afternoon

a: served in a stubby little cascade branded chalice, deep purple-red in color with a collar of white carbonation

s: blueberry nose with a noticeable floral/herbal charactetristic, some earthy leather, not too much oak and a light tannin, gentle spice, nice prick of acid, the berry leads the way here

m: not quite still on the palate, but very gently carbonated, medium in body, velvety

t: lots of leathery dried blueberry flavor with some undertones of malt and gentle spice, steeped herbs, nice acidity, berry flavors linger with a touch of tannin to finish

o: captures the blueberry very well, not hugely complex but very enjoyable

On Tap

Beer Dinner with Cascade Brewing
Stone Brewing Co.
Escondido, CA

Dark ruby and a true blueberry-colored beer, with moderate amounts of visible carbonation, and only a thing ring of small bubbles atop. Appropriate.

Plump and juicy blueberries in the aroma, along with a mild oak presence, some grass, and very minimal funk.

The flavor is much more blueberry-forward than Cascade's Blueberry, with far less funk. This is more of a straight blueberry punch, with only a moderate level of sour character. Simple, straightforward, fruit-forward, and incredibly delicious.

Medium bodied with somewhat low-moderate, creamy carbonation.

A wonderful fruit beer.

Bottle pour at Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours a murky crimson red with no head and no lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour, tart, and funky with some nice cherry/berry aromas. Taste is much the same with lots of berry flavor. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a nice berry presence in both the aroma and taste.

I believe this was a traditionally bunged cask, at Cascade.

No head, red-brown body.

Strong funk and blueberry pie nose. Maybe also leather.

Mellow but with a tart sting, then some dulled blueberry pie, and a drying finish.

Bright and fresh cask-feel.

Impressive. Blueberry, but not sweet.

First had: barrel pour at Cascade, Portland, OR

Poured a delightful reddish-purple color with a thin white ringlet of bubbles for a head. Aroma was very herbal, with obvious scents of natural blueberry, quite acidic, vinegar. Taste followed the aroma well, with blueberry essence, herbal qualities, funk, mucho acetic acid, more funk, and notes of red wine. Nice, but a little too acetic, even for me. Light medium body, and surely a good drink for a session of sours.
