i was surprised to learn that cascade makes not sour beer. they had several of them on tap at the barrel house, and this was the first one i tried. its a nice ipa, quite northwestern in its hop complexion, and very well done. probably shouldnt be surprised that if these guys can make a blended barrel aged sour beer with fruit so well, they probably have the chops to pull off a tasty ipa. they have done exactly that. pale yellow orange in color, short white head, mostly clear, bright aroma of pineapple and pine, a neat mix of local spicy pine hops and something maybe a little more exotic. its not over done, very drinkable and even tame. juicy and fresh as it is, there isnt much bitterness to it, and not a ton of grain flavor. its dry considering its a little oily, and its a little soft on its carbonation. i think its a more than worthy ipa to brew and have on tap for a little something different and for the sour drinkers, but this is a tough category to stand out in up in oregon, and while this wasnt my favorite hoppy beer from our trip, it was a darn good one. cool mix of hops in here, relaxed on the edges, just delightful. summery and sort of lighter than a lot of these.

Enjoyed on draft at the Oregon Brewer's Festival, poured from a cask by the good men of Cascade. Poured into
a plastic IPA style festival glass, this orange brew had a nice thick head and generous lacing. The nose was pungent with hops and the taste was as well, balanced out with a malt backbone. Nicely bittered with a slight citrus presence. If you luck into a shot at trying this brew, jump on it. Very nicely done.

Disappointing. Uninspired. Aftertaste overpowering. Cool setting at their taproom in Portland...maybe their other selections are better.
