Thanks to Sam for this one. 750ml corked and caged bottle decanted and poured into a Hill Farmstead tulip.

1 Finger white foamy head with . Beer is a clear orange-pink. Very little lace. Decent.

Nose is big strawberry, some tartness. Syrupy with some hay funk. Moderately aromatic, light, spritzy and clean. Solid.

Opens tart. Lemon, strawberry seeds, dry hay, and rubber. Some cobweb and woodiness at the middle and end. Finishes tart and Brett. Strawberry seeds in the aftertaste. Fruit flavor is very mellow and subtle but overall flavor has a nice, balanced tartness. Tasty.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Bubbly and crisp in the mouth and goes down foamy, filmy, and wet. Finish is messy with a lingering aftertaste. Showcases the flavor profile nicely.

Strawberry isn't an easy flavor to impart in sours and it shows here. Still, Cascade does a solid job of creating a balanced, interesting beer that is well worth drinking. Glad I had the chance to try this.

on-tap at cascade on a 90+ day in Portland

Pinkish hued - strongly carbonated. The strawberry plays pretty interesting - you can absolutely taste the seeds, maybe even more-so than the fruit. I scratched my head at first about the fruit composition trying to determine if I liked it - still not sure. Strawberry isn't an easy ingredient, but the Almanac Farmers Reserve #3 definitely showcased the fruit more attractively. Still snagged a bottle of this as its undeniably refreshing and will hit the spot the next time the temperatures exceed comfortable.

2012 project

Bottle opens with a nice pop. Pours into a Bruery goblet with a nice 1" white foamy head. Lots of fresh berries on the nose. Big laste of tart strawberries on the toung. Good balance , not sweet or vinegar sour. Perfect carbonation. Now in my top 10 sours !!!

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Clear reddish. A little foam. Nothing else to it.

Smell - Strawberry! Maybe lacking the complete nose of a fresh strawberry, but the acidic components are spot on. Musty, too.

Taste - Acidic strawberry. Nice flavor comes through. Again, not quite the complete strawberry flavor, like the aroma. Tart and musty finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied. Quality sour flavor. Clean and very drinkable.

Overall - Not complex by any means. It's sour and strawberry, but it's done very well.

poured from tap. Pours a nice light strawberry color with a good head.

Very fresh and tart aromas of strawberries, oranges, tart berries and some candy aromas.

Nice refreshing and medium feel that is very good. While it's refreshing, there is definitely a tart and sour side to it with flavors of strawberries, tart berries and candy.

A real nice fruited sour. Well balanced and refreshing while still having sourness to it.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass, 2012 project. Beer pours a hazy golden color with a rosy blush and two fingers of loose off white head that quickly dissipates to a thin collar of foam. Plenty of carbonation streaming up from the bottom of the glass.

Nose is sweet and tart strawberry, lemon, sharp lactic acidity, some oak and mild earthy brett funk.

Taste leads with a blast of sharp lactic acidity, tart red berry and lemon juice, before some sweeter strawberry and red berry flavors along with some sweet malt. Lingering berry and oak flavors on the tongue.

Light body with some sharp carbonation that quickly wipes the tongue. Nice refreshing drink on a warm day.

2011 bottle pulled from the basement for NYE... Pours a hazy orange with a definite twinge of pink... 3 finger head rises up quickly and drops back just as fast.

Nose is fresh berries and strong lactic presence... light oak... smells tannic.

Flavor is plenty tannic... berry is present, but lighter than I had hoped, should have opened this much sooner... lactic almost bile like flavor.

Light and very bubbly... heartburn in a bottle likely... but very tasty.

Pours cloudy gold with a little strawberry hue. Small white head with decent retention.

Light sour berries, oak, lacto and a bit of funk. Not a powerful aroma.

Taste is just sort of generically sour. It's the typical Cascade lacto and is done well, but I don't feel the strawberries really add too much and it's perhaps a touch less sour than the average Cascade wild. A little bit of berry with plenty of oak and good dose of funk. Good profile overall, but don't specifically get much strawberry.

Medium bodied. Well carbonated.

Despite some nitpicking still a solid beer that was enjoyed, but I wouldn't see myself picking this one up again in lieu of other Cascade beers I've enjoyed more.

appearance: hazy red. fairly thick head on the pour.
smell: funky, fermented strawberry.
taste: just like the nose. Sour, tart strawberry and quite dry.
overall: My first Cascade. Very nice. This is amazingly drinkable, refreshing even.

Received as an extra in a trade, what an awesome extra I must say.

A-Well carbonation bright ruby red, one finger head that doesn't last long.

S-Smells of nice funk and brett. Lighter strawberry notes along with oak round out.

T-Not an overpowering sour but more than tart, some puckering. Strawberry is lighter in flavor, not much oak, some apples as well.

M-Light, watery and not as much carbonation as I was expecting based of the appearance,

O-A nice sour, the fruit is overpowering and a distraction from the sour but at the same time the blend of flavors wasn't perfect. That being said, it was a good beer and I'm glad I was able to try it.

Aroma: very strong plastic phenol that dominates other aromas, I thought it would dissipate after a few minutes but was still very strong after having been open 15 minutes, after that there is a candy like strawberry aroma along with a some butyric acid (vomit)

Apperance: light amber in color, quite hazy, one inch thick head that was mostly small bubbles but dissipated after a few minutes

Flavor: flavor is very tangy upfront with the strawberry being very subdued but being becoming more prominent in the aftertaste, very low bitterness, both plastic and vomit from aroma aren't nearly as strong (very subdued), finishes very dry

Mouthfeel: medium light body, medium low level of astringency, medium high to high level of carbonation lending some carbonic bite

Overall: the plastic phenol in the aroma tanks this beers and I only drank half of a glass, very disappointing compared to other cascade offerings

750ml (2012 project) into a tulip.

A: Pours a red-tinged blonde with a spongy white head.

S: Bright lactic acid and a bit of musty brett, along with softly sweet strawberry in the nose. Subtle wheat and oak behind.

T: Taste brings puckering lactic tartness with some nebulous fruitiness in the mix (vague yet pleasant strawberry candy). Mild wheat and vinous oak tannins come in after the acidity fades.

M: Light-bodied with slightly overly frothy carbonation.

O: Two things that detract a bit from my overall enjoyment of it: the strawberry is too subtle in the taste (although it's probably a hard fruit to coax flavor out of in beer), and the beer is a bit over-carbonated. Still, quite a nice beer, with the pros outweighing the cons.

A: Pours a cloudy dark pink/reddish color. Huge bubbly head rushes up quickly and sticks around for a few minutes. This one appears to be mega carbonated.

S: Tons of funk and strawberries on the nose. There is some oak and a small amount of grass and hay.

T: Very sweet. Tart. There is definitely a lot of strawberry. The funk combined with the strawberry almost gives a blush wine taste.

M: Medium body. Very dry. Prickly. High carbonation. A hint of some boozy warmth.

O: Not my favorite cascade offering, but still better than the average sour beer. A bit of an identity crisis between wine and beer on the palate, but I'm still glad I got to try it.

Pour: Poured into a snifter. Hazy, straw color appearance with 1 inch of head.

Aroma: Lots of strawberry, spice rack and sour oak. The oak mixed with strawberry gives off a musty smell. It reminds me of my grandparents’ basement.

Taste: Deliciously sour and tangy strawberry. There’s a hint of lemon zest in the finish. Sour sour sour from start to finish with a slight pucker that disappears quickly.

Mouthfeel: Medium to high carbonation. The same sensation as club soda.

Overall: I thought this beer looked beautiful and tasted great, but the aroma was too off-putting to really enjoy it. I found myself trying to hold my breath before each sip. The musty smell ruins what should have been a great beer. Not sure if I would try this again.

Pours reddish orange, small head with large bubbles. The head quickly dissipates.

The smell is strawberry heavy, with the sour funk evident as well. I get lemon, oak, wheat.

Taste is quite sour, with the oak and strawberry flavors surprisingly evident.

The mouthfeel has medium carbonation, and medium body. A surpringly creamy body, likely from the barrel aging.

Overall, a tasty beer. A good level of strawberry sweetness without it being cloying. I was pleasantly surprised by this as a strawberry sour beer. My first Cascade beer, and I will readily seek them out in the future.

2011 vintage, thanks to rudzud for sharing.

Light fizzy head disappears pretty quickly, typical sour fashion, hazy reddish orange color.

Nose is nice, lots of strawberry, light tannic earthy seed, a bit of a creamy wheat and nice acetic acid, a fermented strawberry like sour aroma, nice generic tart sour fruit aroma.

Taste is quite sour, tart fruit, little generic sour berry, but lots of nice strawberry, juicy fermented strawberry juice like a concentrate version, with more earthy flavours and tannic seed. Into acetic acid, little creamy wheat soured, light flemmy with nice overall tartness, bit of a frozen strawberry. Finish is flemmy and little sticky but dry, nice long sour and tart fruit, again frozen strawberry and tannic seed.

Mouth is med to lighter bod, too much carb, light acidic bite.

Overall good, nice strawberry and sour fruit, good acid and tartness, strawberry is a bit more like frozen fruit.

1696th Review on BA
Bottle to Woodshop snifter
750ml C/C

Bottle share at Steve's house

App- A nice light mix of red, crimson, pink and yellows. Wouldve thought more pink would come out more. Only a small 1/2 finger of head was there and then was gone quickly with a faint amount of cling.

Smell- I've noticed that I am starting to detect the wheat on sours before anything else. This was no different. This had a nice spitzy strawberry prickly flavor with a little oak and some kool aid sugary notes to it.

Taste- This is one great beer. Light and refreshing and easy to sip on. The fruit is there in spades with a mild funk. Along comes the oak adding some earthy undercurrents and it closes with a bit of the sour.

Mouth- A almost medium body with an almost medium carbonation. A lite spirtzy feel with some good residual oak and fruit remain.

Drink- Better as this one warms up. Great layered flavors on this with a lot of fruit and a small sour. I like the smoothness and crispness.

This could be an amazing beer but, the aroma of yeast is too overpowering. Once it hits your pallet, it delivers, but the smell is hard to get past.

Appearance: It is a beautiful light orange with a hue of pink.

Smell: Way too much yeast, its all I smell.

Taste: Carbonation, sweetness, tones of strawberry...delivers as an American Wild Ale.

Mouthfeel: Light and carbonated, my wife mentioned pop rocks.

Overall: Decent but the yeast aroma is too much. Its very chapstick, bandaid, medicine that I do not want to smell. This is typical of American Wild Ales, but this is over the top.

On tap at Cascade on 8.2.12.

A - Served a orange with a red tiny. Small white bubbles cling to the edges.

S - I actually smell strawberries, and lot of them. Nice little sour pucker as well.

T - Strawberry! Very smooth and consistent. Some slight sourness, but pretty mild for Cascade.

D - Perfect carbonation and light body. Not overly sour.

O - Smooth strawberry and slight funky sour. Good stuff.

*** Update 3/23/2013: Wow, this bottle has aged marvelously! Aroma doesn’t hold the same magic it once did (9 --> 7), while the taste has matured like a champ (6 --> 9). Full depth of flavor; fresh & pungent. Might be the best strawberry sour I’ve had. ***

On tap at the barrel house.

Golden red pour, good lace. Super fresh strawberry aroma makes me think I'm actually smelling a fresh strawberry patch. Aroma is truly great.

Taste is a tad disappointing as the strawberries get lost in the mix. Tart and refreshing, just lacks a strong fruit backbone. I hear the bottles are significantly better, so we'll see when I open mine.

This would be a remarkable sour for most breweries, but Cascade set their own bar too high for this to be a celebrated beer.

On tap at the barrel room yesterday.

Orange in color with a white head. Nose smells like bile, curdled stomach acids, strawberries, pepper and pain. Palate is thankfully, not as sour but with plenty of unripe strawberries fragrant and floral. Moderately sour with no funk. Ultimately, this tastes like white wine vinegar with strawberries. Meh.

750mL (2012 project) into a tulip. Pours a hazy copper color w/ a 2-finger white head that settles to a collar and layer of light foam.

Aroma is tart, vinous, and chock-full of sweet strawberry goodness. Oak, lactic acid, and sweet ripe red fruit. I'm very impressed by the strength and clarity of the strawberry character here.

Taste is puckeringly sour almost to the point of vinegary, and I'm getting less of the strawberry than I picked up in the aroma. That's a little disappointing, I was hoping for a really nice fruity sweetness to counter the characteristic Cascade lactic acidity. Some oak and vinous notes, but everything seems overshadowed by the sourness. As it warms though, the sour grows more tart and the dry oak becomes more pronounced.

Mouthfeel is balanced and medium-bodied, prickly carbonation. Finishes dry and refreshing.

Overall another extremely sour Cascade fruit beer, this one possibly even more sour than most. I'm still enjoying it, but not as much as I'd hoped.

2013 vintage. Tasted 8 June 2014.

Pours a super-cloudy murky medium amber with light orange tints. About 1/2 finger of head, pretty good retention and lacing for a sour.

In the smell, I don't get much strawberry. I get vanilla and sour - an interesting combination. The vanilla is warm and expansive, the sour is tart and a fine complement to that richness. I am still looking for the fruit.

Taste is a little wacky. Very, very sour. About 80% sour, 20% ripe strawberry and vanilla warmth. Has that very acidic sour that many of Cascade's beers have - fortunately I like that, as it dominates the beer much more than I think it should.

Feel is medium-bodied, with prickly, singing carbonation. Lasting, tilts acidic/lacto even more in the finish.

Pretty darn tasty, but it tastes a lot like many of Cascade's other beers - the strawberry doesn't come through as clearly as I'd like it to. Very much a sour with a little bit of fruit. Not what I was expecting; it's still quite good, but in my opinion it's a stretch to call the beer "Strawberry".

Consumed on 7/28 as a break from the BA DarkLords during the NYC Voltron tasting!!! thanks to thomas for providing this gem.

a - Orange! strawberry beer that's orange...gotta love it! think fizzy head. streaky lacing that coated the glass fully.

s - funky barnyard strawberries.

t - exactly as the nose advertised...funky barnyard strawberries. tastes pretty nice though. not heavy strawberry by itself as the funkiness is strong in the mix.

m - puckeringly sour. strawberry is nice but almost drowned out by the barnyard funkiness...however, still an easy drinker.

o - overall, really nice. funk extreme! strawberry funk. make my funk the strawberry cause i wants to get funked up!
