Had on tap at New World Tavern, Plymouth
Appearance: red-brown in color, 1/4 inch head, clear, moderate carbonation
Smell: light toasted malt
Taste: sweet caramel and leather
Mouthfeel: medium-light bodied, moderate carbonation, sweet start with a slightly bitter end
Overall: An ok leathery brown. Of all Baxter's beers this is the one I am least likely to get again. Not a bad beer, just one that does not distinguish itself from others in the style.
Serving type: on-tap

From the 12 fl. oz. can which is dated 11/26/13. I bought the single can and neglected to check the date so it may taint my review which I am doing on July 12, 2014.
The pour is amber brown with a slight fog and a tremendous cream colored head that slowly settles back.
Roasted malts are on the nose with a feint earthy hop sensation. Lightly sweet.
The body is light and somewhat smooth.
The hops bring themselves forth more so in the taste than in the aroma but the toasted malt character remains in command. Lingering bitterness at the end though.

12 oz. can poured into a Libby glass.
Appearance: Pours a nice amber color with a big off-white head that sticks around for a good while. Lacing between moderate and heavy.
Smell: Aromas of toffee, malt, toast and some hops.
Taste: Taste follows the nose, and it's quite good. It's very malt and toffee heavy. Some hops on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Pretty good heft for an amber ale. Easy on the palate.
Overall: Very nice red ale. I love a good red ale, and this is a very good one - nice balance of malt flavors and toffee notes. I've been told by my friendly neighborhood store manager that this beer will soon be discontinued - a bummer, because it's a really solid offering.
