12 oz. can poured into a stout glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep black with a one-finger tan head that sticks around a bit. Not much lacing.

Aroma: Smells of vanilla, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt and dark chocolate.

Taste: Follows the nose, with vanilla and cocoa leading the way. Tasty!

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied; not a sludge-fest, but really sturdy.

Overall: Killer stout from these Maine canners. Best as a dessert beer, I'd say, but not overly sweet or chocolatey - just a big, sturdy, tasty stout with nice accents of vanilla and cocoa. Might be my favorite Baxter beer.

Single 12oz can purchased for $1.75 at Craft Beer Cellar on Islington St, Portsmouth NH. Poured cold into a tulip. Code is smudged and difficult to read. "SANTA BABY"? Then something completely incomprehensible. Then "10.28.14" (Oct 28, 2014).

Dark brown brew, 1/2" of frothy tan head settles very quickly. Thin nose of dry black malt. Somewhat saline feeling in the smell. Taste adds just a tiny bit of sweetness and a fair dose of generic herbal bittering hop. Feel is thin and kinda fizzy.

Not a bad beer, true to the style, I guess. Less enjoyable than Baxter's other offerings though, IMHO.

Good stout that doesn't standout. Good sipper, vanilla and cocoa nibs not pronounced, coffee and hoppy flavors more available.
