I had no idea on what to expect from this stout. Just the name, the famous, or should say infamous Phantom punch by Alli!
I love my stouts and I did enjoy this.
It may not be as rich and creaming as some of the other 'big' guys, but this came close in all other aspects.
I could not detect any coffee or chocolate overtones here.
The price is right, the taste is good, I would love to hear its name over and over. The Phantom ,, the punch that rocked the world.
Try it,

It's like a thin roasted vanilla tobacco beer! Pretty decent too.

Poured from a 12oz. can into a Dogfish Head pint glass.

The color is a dark black with a finger of brownish head with slight lacing left on the glass.

The smell is dark malts at first with a black licorice aroma. There is a tease of raisins and a slight bit if chocolate aroma as well.

The taste is dark chocolate and almost a bit brownie flavored. There is a good malt presence that gives more burnt toast flavor. There is a bit of tootsie roll flavor and that holds in the aftertaste and is the best part of the flavor profile.

The feel of this beer is medium bodied and is smooth at times as it has a nice drinkable feel. There is lots here with a nice balanced feel that just adds to the flavor that really wows.

12 oz. can poured into a stout glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep black with a one-finger tan head that sticks around a bit. Not much lacing.

Aroma: Smells of vanilla, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt and dark chocolate.

Taste: Follows the nose, with vanilla and cocoa leading the way. Tasty!

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied; not a sludge-fest, but really sturdy.

Overall: Killer stout from these Maine canners. Best as a dessert beer, I'd say, but not overly sweet or chocolatey - just a big, sturdy, tasty stout with nice accents of vanilla and cocoa. Might be my favorite Baxter beer.
