I was there on a Monday night around 8pm and the place was fairly empty. Plenty of beer on tap with a few hard to find selections. The menu has a good description of each beer offering which is appreciated. It's dark in there. A couple of Nintendo consoles set up to play some retro video games which is cool. The murals on the wall are awesome! An unpretentious atmosphere. I loved the place and hope to get back next time I am in the area. Beer Geeks!

I have lived in the area for a long time and this is the place to be for craft beer lovers next to Three Floyds. The first time I went to Beer Geeks was after trying to get into Three Floyds brew pub only to be told it was an hour and a half wait. I fell in love with Beer Geeks on the spot. The feel of the place is super cool and I love how they have board games to play. Every time I am there something interesting is playing on the TVs. It has ranged from the Goonies to Black Dynamite to old horror movies. The only time I saw sports playing was a rerun of the second threepeat of the Chicago Bulls. The one point where I wasn't to happy is the music is maybe too loud for this type of bar. I feel craft beer bars are more about hanging out and talking with people. I wish the music was turned down so I could talk being too loud. The selection is great with constantly changing selection and the fact they carry mead. This is also one of the few places you will find Three Floyds specialty beers outside of the brew pub and the city of Chicago. The best thing is the prices. When this is your first craft beer bar, $5 average for a pint might seem a little pricey, but go anywhere else and its going to be closer to $6-8 average. Plus, they have plenty of $4.50 beers depending on the day. Beer Geeks is my go to bar and I am usually there once or twice a week.

This place has been open for two years and is less than a ten minute drive from the Three Floyds, but somehow I've never heard of it, just happened upon it while tooling aimlessly through northwest Indiana.

The outside of the joint is especially nondescript, and I told my friend that there was no way the inside of the place could live up to its name. Most likely it would be one of those semi-beer literate poseur bars that cater to tubby suburban types, the sort of place where officeworkers stop for a couple pints of Harp before having to go home to their cold wives and fat children.

We were wrong. The place was adorable. Very dark, with murals all along the walls, a wonderfully un-hip, blue collar clientele, and live concert blu-rays playing above the bar (some blues, then Cheap Trick doing Sgt Pepper in its entirety). Very friendly and completely unpretentious: exactly what I like in my beer bars.

The selection was great and varied. Some harder to find regionals, some midwest staples, some big, some small, some hoppy, some sessionable. Everything was reasonably priced, too, and tickers will be pleased to know most of the beers were offered in small sizes.

There's not much else to say, because there's not much to this place--and that's the glorious point. This isn't a beer mecca where you have to wait in a line for a half hour to get in (and then pay out the ass once you're there). It's just a nice, dark, relaxed pub where decent people go to drink great beer.

Cool place in an unlikely spot. Really not many places like Beer Geeks outside of 3 Floyds in NWI, in my limited experience. The building is in a strip mall between a couple of aging 70's era storefronts pushing burgers and pizza. Black roof, stucco walls, and black shuttered windows. Inside, the lighting is dim with blacklight accents behind the bar. Creative mural portraits and beer themed art on the walls. Next thing you notice is the row of 20 plus taps behind the bar.

Black swivel chairs, worn brass rail, L shaped bar seats a dozen or so, plus tables and lounge seating in the front. A decent crowd early on a Saturday evening, mostly locals and a pair from the Quad Cities chatting at the bar.

Bartender was quick and friendly, talking beer an answering questions easily. He offered half pours of draft beers, and explained some local distribution issues.

Selection was all quality, no filler. Pretty admirable. No macros or a bunch of wheat/amber/blandness, in favor of bold flavors in a variety of styles. Bottle list was short and sweet. Saison Brett, a couple from Moylans, and more. Taps were varied, Boulevard Dry Stout on nitro, Liefmans Oud Bruin, FFF Zombie Dust, Schlafly Porter, Stone Levitation, SN Northern Hemisphere, and others. Overall a great craft-centric variety with something for everyone.

I try to come here once a week since i am within walking distance. Their rotation of beers is always good. They support local breweries as well as international companies. They always have a nice balanced beer menu and you can bring food from the pizza joint / burger shack next door. Vibe is ok, service is good and they offer local bands several times per week. They have had hopslam on cask, kbs and blushing monk also on tap. They typically carry 1-2 three floyds beers. Love the yoda painting "forcing" a beer over.

Stopped in here today for the first time. Well today I had to drop someone off at the dentist about 2 blocks away so I figured I would try it while I waited. It was very dark inside and the music selection was pretty good. The lighting while dark was still good enough for me to read a few chapters before getting a call to return to dentist to pick up the person i dropped off. The draft selection was pretty good but, it looked mostly like stuff you can find locally in bottles which was a bit disappointing. The prices though where really excellent. I got a 22z glass of Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse for only $5 which is a very fair price in my opinion. On top of all that the bar tender was very friendly. If you are in the area check it out. Disappointing that they don't have a carry out liscense for growler fills but I will definitely be stopping in there again.

Have been to Beer Geeks twice now, with extremely different results.

My wife and I had heard of the place, with it's murals of "geek icons" such as Yoda and Spock pictured enjoying beers. Sounded like our kind of place!

So, on a road trip, we were nearby and stopped in. It wasn't overly crowded at the time, maybe 5-10 other people. There was a basketball game on the TVs and all the patrons, as well as the bartender at the time (didn't get his name), were paying far, far more attention to that (and yelling loudly about it) than anything at all to do with beer. We enjoyed a couple of beers and left, vowing not to return.

Ever the Charlie-Brown-football people we are, we returned last week. We got there early, and there were no other patrons, and the bartender was a 20-something woman named Megan. She KNOWS HER BEERS and we chatted with her and enjoyed several beers for a couple of hours.

So, if you're mainly about the beer (and at a place named BEER GEEKS.... O_O) - I have to say, go during the day, and chat with Megan. She really does know her beer.

Stopped in here on 14 Jun 2011. Was a Tuesday, so they had a blues band playing as well as their 'buy two beers and get a plate for the meal' deal, which was a southern style offering of grits, catfish cakes, corn bread and greens (both the band and the food were decent).

Quite dark as you enter, dropped ceiling, bar to the right that seems to have been made of some kind of resin, and the small stage for the band front and center. The impression I get is that of a BMC beer bar circa 1982 with all the cigarette smoke cleared out, new swag on the walls and the BMC taps replaced with micros.

Besides being a little dark for my tastes, the service was a bit slow (we were at a table, not the bar), but otherwise no real complaints. Beer menu was fairly evenly split between locals and European imports. Twenty or so beers on tap. I would definitely go back when in the area.

I am in beergeeks once a week or so and am quite impressed with the beer rotation and selection. Being smoke free helps enhance the atmosphere.

There website is frequently updated with fresh brews or upcoming events which helps you get in on the rare beers that hit the tap. Have to say it is my favorite place to drink...doesn't hurt that I can walk home if I had to do so.

They have 20 rotating taps. One beer (cask) engine. One nitro tap as well. Tables, booths, and bar...great murals on wall (yoda my personal favorite) and nice tvs to catch a game a beer. Also offers live local music...

Located in a strip mall in highland indiana. Walking in the place is dim with a mid size bar to your right. Tables and booths line the walls with a few other tables in the center of the place. They offer 20 rotating taps and usually 15 bottles to choose from. Selection is great as they are always putting on new things. They also featured a cask of bells hopslam which i believe was the only in the state of IN. Service is so so some of them know their beer some dont. Price is reasonable bout 6 bucks for 12 oz pour of most stuff. Overall great place check it out.

Inside looked like a converted strip club, dimly lit with black lite accents on the menu board. The murals on the wall were very cool and definately added to the overall theme.
Service was friendly, professional and somewhat knowledgeable. Had an imp stout on nitro that was perfectly poured and the bartender took the time to make sure the presentation was perfect.
Selection was decent and very reasonably priced with some local flavors as well as other standards with many different beer styles represented. 20 taps and a good selection of bottles (12, 22oz, 375 to 750ml).
If I were a local I can see making this a normal hangout. Definately a good place to stop if you're on a beer mission in the area.

The atmosphere is smoke free and incredibly laid back; it relaxes without any beer even. People don't go here to get rowdy but instead come in to relax and have some of the finest brews the country has to offer.

I'm a regular there and go in about once a week or once every two weeks. Everything I have tasted there has been extremely fresh. They also do a good job of supporting local breweries (valpo's figure 8, crown point's crown, and of course munster's 3 floyds) but Beer Geeks also does an outstanding job of supplying fresh beer from New York, California, and anywhere else with good breweries.

The beers will run you about $5-6 dollars on average but will give you anywhere from 12-23oz depending on the value and ABV of the beer.

Also smaller 10 oz servings of beers will run $2-4 for those looking to try more and drink less.

Usually there is only one bartender on at one time during the week and two during the weekend, but they are highly efficient and will not neglect you.

If you live in NWI or Chicago area I urge you to at least give this place a try for a beer or two. You won't be disappointed.

Last night was my first visit to BG...

I have to say I'm pretty impressed. It is a nice change from 3Floyds, in that the beers are cheaper and there isn't a wait to get in to like on the weekends at 3F. The only food is free pretzel rods, however that does make it pretty cool. The tap list quickly changes, but that really makes the place. You don't get stale old beer. The music seems to be 90s rock and the TVs are a nice touch. Over all, nothing bad to say about the place. It's a far cry from the map room, but it's nice to have a craft beer bar in NWI.

I may be a little premature with this review because I'm still trying to figure this place out. Maybe it's because I'm a day drinker, and the place is always empty. That leaves me trying to talk to some (seemingly) disinterested and indifferent bartenders that preside over an outstanding and fresh selection...The line up is done by a Cicerone. Not even going to try to list the beers here because they rotate very quickly (good). A nice cross sectional representation of malty, hoppy, and big. Nice local options and even some Euros. I don't quite get their infatuation with Southern Tier though. They also serve half-pints if you are trying to decide. Decent location that provides an "on the way" alternative. All in all, I do like the place, but it's a little awkward sometimes to talk with the people behind the bar.

Not much to look at from the outside, or inside either. Their tap selection is really good. Especially for NW Indiana. When I was there they didn't have anything lined up on their beer-engine but I was only a week early I hear. Will definitely send anyone there who's looking for a good beer. They are open 7 days a week till 1am Sun-Thurs and 2am on Fri and Sat. Very close to Bonedry and Three Floyds so some pub crawling is definitely possible. Its kinda hard to see from the road. Hopefully they will get a good marque sign out near the road.

20 drafts. One is always nitro. Fantastic beer selection that is always rotating. Current drafts : old rasputen ( nitro), arrogant bastard, dirty bastard, left hand saw tooth, la trappe! , sublimely self rightous , dogfish pumking and 60 min, victory hop head and prima pills, ommegang rare vos 3 floyds pride and joy, tyyranena rockys revenge. Great artwork! Has high defination which is great for any sporting event. Only bad thing about this place is its cash only. The do have an atm inside though.
