This is the first non-barrel aged infected beer I've had in quite a long time. When I poured it I noticed it was very cloudy. It was carbonated almost like pop, but it wasn't a gusher. I think this was a lacto infection since there was no "brettiness", just a clean sourness like a fresh berliner weiss. This turned out to be a pretty nice beer - very refreshing and no real "off" tastes. Perhaps somewhat overbittered, but that would have been needed to contrast with the sweetness that the beer should have had. Just thought the brewers would want to know that they have a sanitation issue.

It looks nice, a very thick and cloudy deep amber with red-orange hues throughout in color and forming a tight light yellowish hewd about a finger high that leaves patchy lacing in plenty.
The aroma is somewhat muted at first but only needs a few minutes to open up, offering the key red ale profile of balance between light floral hops and toffee/caramel malts with toastiness, much more malty than hoppy. There's also a strong underlying nuttiness. Tangy fruits come out as it warms.
The flavor loses balance, as the malts are there, going grainy, and fruits come out to crush everything else but the nuttiness peeking out. If indeed it did win a gold, I don't know why judges would agree a red ale should be a tang bomb. This is entirely too tangy, and sour to boot. I hope it's infected, but I can't say.
The feel is good, some heft in a medium body with mellow but consistent crispness and regular smoothness.

Sampled from a bottle. Also infected as many here have noted.
Poured out the six pack. Better beers deserving limited fridge space.
I really am dissapointed as i no longer live in Ohio and i could have brought something else back with me...
Like a great lakes varietal per chance

12 oz bottle, 5% abv. Pours a very slightly hazy amber color. Good looking off-white head, but it seemed to fade to a thin layer rather quickly.
Nice caramel, almost toffee-like aroma. Some soft fruity notes, along with some cereal grain hints.
Slight caramel malt feel, but not a great deal of depth. A few fruity notes, which help add something. Decent herbal and floral hop finish.
Light body, somewhat thin and watery. Balance is decent, and alcohol is low making it an easy drinker. Not very impressive.

A - Starts off looking quite good over an inch of tan colored head atop of a very deep amber brown colored beer. Mild sediment layer may mean I held onto this a bit long but its still good.
S - Quite mild tones of biscuit, some bready malts and some sweet caramel malts. No harsh chemical smells or metallic tarnish so I may have gotten a good bottle.
t - Not as bad as Killians Irish Red for sure. Some metallic notes with mostly bread, dry hops, and some sweet caramel malts in the finish.
M - Light to medium its easy enough to drink.
Overall I guess the bad rating is weighed on old or bad bottles since the bottle I had is quite good. Worth picking up again if you got an infected one.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a mug. Pours a slightly hazy copper color, with a 1" off-white head that reduces to a 1/8" lid.
Has a very grassy, straw-like aroma, with a bit of cracked malt. A slight biscuity smell presents as it sits for a minute.
Taste is malty, with a sweeter finish. Creamy to start, with an almost cream-of-wheat flavor, cracker-like, becoming sweeter as you get further through the sip, before ending soft and easy. Has a dryer, tacky finish on the tongue and roof of the mouth.
Medium bodied, the only thing taking away from a very nice mouthfeel is the tacky finish.
All in all, a decent Irish Red. Pleasant and easy drinking, but also unremarkable, this is one beer you easily mistake for another.

A- somewhat hazy orange amber with golden highlights. the head is dense and creamy and yellow tinted eggshell in color and leaves some thick blankets of lace. the foam isn't very expansive, but it does hold solid at about 1/4in thick for a decent amount of time.
S- the same floral aroma i found in their kolsch, almost soapy, and doesn't belong here, but with a toasty bready caramel background. hints of peanut butter and toasted pecan are deep in there with a mild woodsiness.
T- far hoppier than the nose let on, and heavier on the malt as well. there's none of that out of place floral whatever it was in the flavor. hop flavor is lemony, herbal, and grassy with a metallic edge. the malt side is toasty sweet, whole grain bread, a touch of brown sugar and praline, peanut butter, dates, and raisins with some very mild chocolatey roasted flavor. finishes grainy and bready with quickly fading hop bitterness. not bad, but everything seems all smashed together and lacking in depth. the yeast flavor to me seems like grocery store yeast packets and sort of cardboards out on the back end taking the malt flavor from good to boring.
MF- full and soft, perfect under medium very tight carbonation. the bubbles are borderline nitro tiny but are very prickly and cooling, giving this bird a menthol feel that compliments the flavor as well as the rich texture. dry on the cheeks as well, so there's no monosaccharide blues.
D- friendly brew, not diggin the flowery smell, but tastes fine and feels better in fact the feel nails it down for me, and with the easy 5%abv there's no reason why a couple of these would be any trouble. problem is, i'm reaching for an oktoberfest right now...

Pretty Clear Amberish
Smell is the best thing this beer has going for it. No hops though.
The nose is bright with caramelized wood and slightly sweet malt.
The taste is so so.
You get that caramelized wood in far back, kinda tinty, slightly bitter, and hollow.
Very quenching though. In no way is it bad IMO. Just not persuading me to purchase it regularly.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic glass
A- Poured a clear reddish color with some visible carbonation, not a ton, but it is there. Had a two finger soapy head that dissipated quickly
S- Nice biscuity, nutty, earthy, and noble hop aromas
T- Bready, biscuity, some earthiness, fruitiness, citrus, and pretty nice hop presence. Good balance of hop and malt.
M- Smooth, prickly carbonation
O- One of the better Irish Reds I have ever had. This one has a lot of flavor, a decent hop presence, some nice citrus and fruit notes and a nice biscuity flavor I like in amber/red beers.

Well I do live in Montana so I expected the taste to be a little off after having the beer traveling that far but this beer was really undrinkable. The color was to light for an Irish Red. The smell had a hint of plastic to it. The taste was sour and was obviously infected. The mouth feel was way to light and it had absolutely no body at all. Overall I tried just enough of this to write this review and poured out the rest.

12 oz bottle, no numbers or anything within sight on bottle.
Pours a nice golden amber color. Whitish head soon becomes a ring that sticks to the glass. Smell is sweet and honey-like, with an aromatic malt presence. Taste is round and smooth, almost mirroring the smell - sweet upfront with a tasty malt backbone. The end finishes sweet too, but is not overwhelming. there is enough bitters to swing the balance over. Feel is a bit tight and dry. Drinkability is good. A quite decent red ale.

Pours a nice clear, light red color. A medium, cream colored head is created with nice retention.
Smell has nice toffee malt smell to it. Very good for an Irish red.
Taste is very easy. A good Irish red taste. Nice toffee flavors. Nothing blows you away but the tastes balance themselves very well.
Mouthfeel is nice. Very smooth and good thickness.
Drinkability is very nice on this beer. It has a lot of good flavors that balance well that one could drink all day. Definitely a good session beer and a gateway for potential craft beer drinkers.

Hmmmm. It seems I got the retired one, not the one people are rating highly. I can't see how this could be getting very good reviews. To me, this is a below average red.
It is a little creamy, which is nice. And the appearance is very good. But the taste leaves me very flat. It needs to be a bit sharper - hoppier, crisper. Something.

A nice ruby hued amber color with touches of lace hugging the sides of the glass.
The scent is a bit vague, notes of caramel, grainy malts in the nose and mouth, and a nice dry bitter finish.
Excellent example of the style with a very smooth finish.

12 oz. undated bottle: the ale poured a bright and clear, reddish-brown hue with a foamy off-white head that quickly dissipated leaving no lacing.
The aroma was faintly spicy with sweet malt dominating.
This ale is a fairly simple but flavorful ale. The initial soft malty flavor is quickly replaced by a pleasant hop bitterness. The mild sweetness lingers for a few seconds and abruptly ends. The label states the ale has a nutty finish, but I failed to taste it. There are no nuances here.
The body is rather thin and watery with sharp carbonation.
This is a more than satisfactory interpretation of an Irish style ale; quite refreshing and quaffable but hardly complex. I drank the first one quickly and wanted another.
