Our flagship beer brings the Irish Red into the 21st Century of American Beer. We started with a solid Irish Red as a base, and blended it with some of the concepts that make American beer great. This beer is bigger, richer, and more flavor packed than its inspiration. It’s rich and malty flavor is balanced out with an American hoppy taste.

Pouring from the bottle to a dark brown color with a hazy body, Knickerbocker Red serves up a creamy, beige- colored head of foam with tiny bubbles. The nose on this beer is one of sweet malt with a hint of chocolate. The foam looks good and leaves generous lacing as you drink.
With the taste, this beer has some interesting things to note. Flavors such as biscuit malts, caramel, and pine are most prevalent. There are some toasted malt flavors as well, plus some bready notes. The hops assert some subtle spice, but the beer remains malt- accented overall.
Blue Pants Imperial Red is a good beer overall with enough to offer that it should satisfy the beer geeks among us. The alcoholic strength is a little higher than I expected and the flavor is a little more one- dimensional than other beers of this style. More hop emphasis would help, but this is still a tasty beer overall and one with enough going for it to recommend.

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.
Spectacular showing of head and lacing on top of this reddish brown brew. Very sweet and fruity nose with a thick layer of toffee and some booziness. Creamy thick medium body, some smoothness. Toasty sweetness, faint buttery tone, and alcohol are dominant on the palate. There is a sturdy hop profile and bitterness but the sweetness and alcohol seem to lay down harder.
Decent drinking.

Over carbonated with phenolic aroma and flavor. Seems like there is a lot of variability based on reviews.

12 ounce bottle -> New Belgium globe
A - deep amber red with a towering overflowing head. Retention is awesome and lacing is among some of the most elaborate I have ever seen.
S - earthy, grass, bread, grainy
T - big caramel malt backbone with a bitter finish that is a bit unexpected. Otherwise this is a typical amber ale.
M - loaded with carbonation, bit of an aftertaste
O - pretty good, but there are better amber ales. In general I am a big Blue Pants fan so I would buy this again.

Aroma: Light floral hop nose up front. Mild caramel backbone asserts itself as it warms. Very well balanced between the floral hop and caramel notes each playing off each other and providing varying points of emphasis. Clean fermentation character.
Appearance: Dense brick red pour with a low off white head. Head retention is good. Appears still in the glass.
Flavor: Firm earthy hop bitterness with more floral hop flavors coming through. There is a hint of honey and toasted malt sweetness that shines through but is well balanced by the firm bitterness. Burnt caramel notes appear as the beer warms up. I’m really enjoying the interplay between the earthy hop bitterness, floral and piney hop flavors, and toasted caramel malts. Balance is to the hop bitterness. Finish is clean and dry.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. There is a touch of alcohol heat. Slight hop derived astringency.
Overall impression: Wow! This is big American Amber Ale. It has some “Bigfoot”-esque qualities about it. The malty character with the aggressive hops definitely push the envelope. I wish I had access to this all the time. Well done!
