From the 650 ml. chilled bottle. 2013 batch. Sampled on March 27, 2014.
It pours a truly handsome looking medium amber with ruby red hues glistening against the light and a lingering tan or off-white head, It truly looks enticing.
Having enjoyed barleywines for a few years I knew what I should expect. Yes there are sweet barley malts on the nose but there is also a notable chocolate character floating around in the background. That was unique and also quite fascinating. Little to no booze
Medium to big body that settles in on my palate.
The taste has all the sweet barley malt characters one would expect from the style (pre-aging) but there is this interesting chocolate or cocoa flavor that sneaks up from behind then takes over fairly quickly. It balances it all off very nicely. One of the more unique barleywines I have had. And I'm aging another bottle. I wonder how it will be at year's end?

22oz bottle. 2013 Vintage (obviously). Pours a murky dark copperish color with a thin layer of head. Some lacing. The aroma is boozey and malty with some dark fruits, earth, caramel, and butterscotch. The taste is the bourbon followed up by caramel, butterscotch and malts. Dark fruits and earth as well. Booze and butterscotch at the finish. Slightly woody. Medium bodied. Overall, this is a really solid Bourbon Barrel aged Barleywine that can hold its own against some of the more well known ones. Worth seeking out.

On-tap at Doherty's East Ave, 12 oz. pour into a tulip.
A: Poured a dark, hazy brown with two fingers of off-white head that lingers for a while, fading to a nice chunky lace.
S: I get lots of sweetness up front with a combination of caramel, toffee, bourbon, and sweet malts. There is also a smell of dark fruits, and a nice oaky smell as well.
T: I get more of the dark fruit than I expected given the nose, but there's a ton of malty sweetness, caramel, oak and vanilla. The bourbon comes through and provides a great balance without overpowering.
M: Medium bodied and real smooth with mild carbonation and little alcohol burn despite it's size. If I have one complaint it may be that this is a bit easy drinking, but this is a nice sipper.
O: This is a really solid BBBW and I'm glad I got the chance to try it. Having had BCBW recently, I will say that this is not quite as good but honestly pretty damn close. Worth trying if you can get some!

Bottle picked up on a whim from the Francestown General Store.
Pours a dark brown color with nice ruby highlights and a creamy off white head that doesn't last very long. Aromas of caramel and brown sugar with bits of bourbon, vanilla, alcohol, and wood tannins. The flavor is sweet with dark sugary maltiness. The oak and alcohol cut through the sweetness quickly with some dark fruits and vanilla rounding out at the edges. Medium to thick body with a moderate to low level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Decent brew, but the alcohol is a bit present. Decent brew right now, but some time would probably make this a fantastic brew.
