Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Hefeweizen is a golden unfiltered wheat beer with it’s origins from Bavaria. We ferment it with a traditional German yeast strain which produces a unique spicy fruitiness and wonderful carbonation. Malted red wheat gives it a light crisp body and dense white head. Please sit back and enjoy our summertime seasonal beer!

12oz. bottle served in my Weihenstephan glass. Botted 04/30/12 printed on the neck of the bottle. Pours a bright orange-gold hue with a hazy clarity and a rocky, half inch bright white head. Head eventually dissipates towards the shoulders. Some thin strands of lacing are present during the session. Nose expresses clove, banana esters, citrus fruit and yeast. Taste follows nose; however, it all comes off a bit muted. There's also a trace of tangerine in the flavor profile and finish is a bit wheaty. Mouthfeel is light in body with a water consistency and a mild, even carbonation. Overall, not a bad domestic hefeweizen. A little dull, but quite quaffable at 4.40%.

The hallmarks of a quality hefeweizen is it's ability to delineate itself from a Belgian white (which relies on it's fusion of many spices), by highlighting it's unfiltered, raw ale qualities that many other lighter beers don't possess. The last hefeweizen I had from Mission St. (considered a bargain beer primarily sold at Trader Joes) was a bottle filled to the brim with visible swirling yeast that really magnified every sip, and tasted like the sum of it's ingredients, not the "spice rack" that is so present in witbier. Sebago's Hefeweizen, while not bad, just doesn't taste like a true hefeweizen to me; it relies on the banana and citrus flavors that shouldn't be it's strongpoints.

A: Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a Pint glass. A clear yellow brew almost a light golden. Couldn't get a good look at the head, but it seemed lighter with no to quite little lacing.

S: Quite an interesting smell with a hint of wheat and honey.

T: A strong banana scent with honey and wheat. Quite a tasty Hefeweizen. Definitely the best part of the beer.

M: A standard brew, nice and carbonated brew with a crisp taste.

O: A great beer for $3.49 a six pack. Got it on sale so I can't complain. Not sure I'd recommend it a friend, but I would if the price stayed the same.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy orange color with a thin white head.

Smell: Cloves, wheat. Some sweet smells too.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium to light bodied. Taste of wheat and cloves.

Overall: Decent take on a Hefenweizen, it was refreshing for sure. However I would not go out of my way to buy this beer again, but I woud not refuse if offered to me.

A: Pours a hazy straw color with a good sized fizzy white head. Fades quickly, leaving decent lacing behind.

S: Very grassy and biscuity. Strongish cloves. Hint of banana. Just a hint of wheat.

T: Tons of cloves, banana and wheat. Less grass than in the aroma but it's there, mainly in the finish. Maybe just a hint of lemon in there.

M: Light but not watery. Very very smooth and refreshing.

O: Simple but very drinkable brew. Refreshing and smooth. Heavy on the banana and cloves for sure but doesn't detract much.

I had this last year and didn't really like it, but wanted to try it again. Here goes:

A: straw yellow colored body with a small white head that died within twenty seconds. Despite the haziness, gentle carbonation rose in strings. No lacing was left.

S: banana with some bread and light graininess in the background.

T: banana, some clove came out but stayed in the background. Some lemon came out in the end.

M: pretty smooth with a low carbonation yet still tickled my tongue.

O: I'm glad I only bought one. Though I didn't really like this the last time I had it, it didn't seem as bad as I rated it last time. It might just be the style.
