Notes/Commercial Description:
Slick Nick Winter Ale is our most popular seasonal ale. The caramel and black malts we use to brew Slick Nick gives it the deep amber color. This insidious brew is best enjoyed during New England's freezing winter months. Slick Nick himself is pictured on our label casing out the Victoria Mansion in Portland Maine on a blustery night. Warm up with one of Maine's best winter offerings.

Looks like your typical winter warmer, but kinda wimpy in the taste department...but gotta say, it doesn't have the sweet, overly spiced taste of some of 'em. Got it as a Xmas gift so can't complain too much.

12 oz. bottle poured into a becker.

Appearance: Pours a slightly murky ruby-type color. Short white head is gone soon. Carbonation seems heavy.

Aroma: Malty nose with some slightly spicy hops and some dark fruits like cherries and raisins.

Taste: Pretty good malt presence up front. Slightly sweet, brown sugary finish. Those dark fruit notes have more of a presence as it warms. Hop spiciness is also noticeable.

Mouthfeel: A little thinner than expected. Not watery, but lacks a big, firm body.

Overall: Okay winter seasonal. Might just not be a style I love. It's approachable and quaffable, but there isn't much to it.

A good beer with a mild spiced profile. Enjoyed this beer but would not go out of my way to revisit.

A - poured a dark clear amber, with massive 2.5 finger off white head. Head took a while to dissipate and left me with copious amounts of lacing that remained to the end.

S - the aroma is subdued, slight spicy hops, sweet fruity malt with lots if raisin, and warming alcohol.

T - the taste is a complex balance of hops malt and warming alcohol. The flavor hops, while present with citrus and pine, take a back seat to the sweet malt, slight notes of dark fruits and candy sugar but not so much. But it is the finish gets me, a quenching bite of bitter hops and warming alcohol, that is so enjoyable.

M - ample carbonation makes it feel less thick than it probably is. Finishes clean and slightly sweet.

O - I'm very partial to this beer, one if my favorite winter warmers. The hops stand up to the malt real well, resulting in a very enjoyable and flavorful beer.

Appearance was dark brown with a thin head that dissipated quickly. The smell was heavy on malt with some hop at the end. Also some chocolate notes give a sweet smell to it. The taste was very mellow and earthy. Lots of sweet malt to this one. the mouthfeel was a bit thick for my tastes but not bad. Overall a very nice winter warmer.
