Sampled on tap at the New England Brewfest on June 30, 2012. The pour was a darker amber tone with an off-white head, some lacing, and a ruby red hue if held to the light. On the nose I found a toasted malt character followed by a little fruit and a crisp, clean hop note. The body was light but somewhat acidic or astringent. That had an impact on the flavor I believe as it came in more moderately hopped than I might have expected and less sweet and malty.

Had a 14-ouncer on tap at Hadlock Field, home of your Portland Sea Dogs, in Portland, Maine.
Appearance: Pours an attractive amber with a frothy off-white head that sticks around for a long time. Lacing is heavy. Looks good; happy to be drinking this on a frigid April day.
Aromas: Nose is kind of faint, but there's a a note of maltiness and some caramel along with hop bitterness.
Taste: Very good red ale. Tastes include caramel, malt sweetness, toffee and some earthy backbone. Really good.
Mouthfeel: This has a good, sturdy body and an approachable flavor profile. Easy on the palate. Kind of surprised the IBU is so high; not super bitter.
Overall: I love a good red ale, and this is one. Really tasty set of flavors and enough complexity to keep you interested. I was bummed when it was finished, but with the low ABV, it wouldn't be too wild to have another.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
A: Golden-orange color with great clarity. Cream colored head settles to a thin cap. Lacing forms jagged rings.
S: Malt forward and fruity nose. Caramel and lightly toasted grain are the main attraction. Cherry juice and sweet berries are well established too. Maybe a pinch of cocoa. Very faint grassy hops.
T: Wave of caramel at the outset. Hints of toasted grain and toffee, but the caramel taste holds the focus as it builds and develops. Very subtle nutty/cocoa flavor. Tame spicy hop character for balance. Sweet cherries and red berries. Hollow grainy finish.
M: Medium bodied. Full and slick with a chewy quality. Low carbonation. Smooth enough.
O: An easy beer to drink, if not just a little too ho-hum. It's a very safe red ale, but the pitfall of safe reds is that they tend to be bland and boring. Falls a little flat on the finish as well.
