Notes/Commercial Description:
Frye's Leap IPA is an intense experience. It is a hoppy medium-bodied ale and is full of character. From the caramel malt which gives our IPA its golden color to the distinct fruity hoppiness, this beer is every bit as exciting as its namesake, the popular cliffs on Sebago Lake. Enjoy this refreshing beer with seafood, spicy foods and all things grilled. Take the Leap!

Pours a nice cloudy dark gold with a bit of head. Good lacing. Decent aroma of English hops and malts. Flavour is pretty nice - the hops taste English but certainly stronger than a typical English bitter.

Well balanced maltiness. Great lingering hoppy aftertaste. Reading the beer description now, I am a bit surprised to find that this uses American hops, but I suppose it helps explain the stronger profile than a typical British... Enjoyable stuff, and better than I expected. It's providing me with something a bit different than most American IPAs.

A - Pours with a light head, 1 finger. Slightly hazy, golden color.

S - Aroma is somewhat hoppy and floral, with strong resin and pine notes. Pleasant, though not a standard IPA aroma.

T - Similar to the smell, the resin/pine notes are the primary tastes. Not as hoppy or bitter as might be expected from an IPA, but that's not necessarily a bad thing;

M - Smooth, round medium body, slightly syrupy.

O - Overall an interesting beer. Some nice attributes (mouthfeel and appearance primarily). It's less hoppy and bitter than a typical IPA. The aroma is strong and resiny, but has a tendency to overwhelm the taste, resulting in a more muted hoppyness than I'd expect from an IPA. I'll definitely drink this beer again, but if I'm in the mood for a hoppy, bold IPA, I'll look elsewhere.
