Bottle from Colonial Spirits.
Brilliantly clear dark brown with wonderfully garnet highlights and a smallish off white head that took some coaxing to stir up and dissipated quite quickly. Aromas of stone fruit and brown sugary caramel and toffee with hints of smoke, light wood and non descript spice. The flavor follows through on what the aroma promised. Dark sugary maltiness with hints of caramelized sugars with lots of cherry and almond notes with touches of prunes and raisins. Light spice and alcohol flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Wonderfully complex sipping beer.

Deep, dark, syrupy, boozy, notes of spice--not only coriander, but also anise. A lot to take in. Alcohol is more noticeable than I typically care for, but it melds with the dark fruits to come off like fruit cake with prunes and raisins soaked in rum. A bit of brandy and cognac notes.

This is a great beer, but not my speed. Not enjoying this, due to the forward character of the alcohol, especially as it warms. Couldn't finish this one.

Bottle stamped L 3112:
Pours an almost black dark brown, with a nice foamy off white head. The head eventually collects and maintains at the edges. Very little to l=no lacing, but some alcohol trails, somewhat surprisingly. Nose is date, dark raisin, light brown sugar. There is also some dark roasted malt, somewhat coffee-ish notes as well.

Taste again follows the nose (like the House Ale previously rated). The barrel comes through more prevalently in this beer that the other. The taste does have a certain fruitiness to it, I get what I can best describe as plum. The feel is light-to medium; the carbonation leaves me with a feel similar to almost flat cola.

To me, the feel again is a minor issue. In this beer, the flavor is better overall, which helps make up for the lack of body (IMO). A nice offering, and I'd be willing to try again to see if I might be missing something.

Poured from the bottle into a Wee Heavy glass.

A real creamy forming three finger very light tan head, almost coffee espresso colored, with thin bubbles in its makeup. Body color is a big mahogany with hints of burnt rust like red on the edges and highlights. Very muddy and opaque kind of pudding like character as well it seems strangely too.

Super fruity nose. Hints of raspberry like esters and big dry spices. Strangely sensing salty character, and mellow caramel. Very small hints of wispy like smoke as well, hitting nicely to match. Extremely subtly and complex bouquet, very enjoyable.

Palate actually comes as a bit of a letdown. For oak barrel aging, extremely watery and weak. Not much coating on the palate or lasting aromas. Faint milk chocolate malt sensations with not much thickness. Fruity hinting character and complexity feels completely washed out, not giving the large sensing aroma and hoping palate that might be forthcoming. Light bodied stout feel and flavors, mild ashen charing. Fruit flavors only seem to be on the nose and not the palate also.

Where is the caramel on this thing, or great mouthfeel that comes from barrel aging? Some real interesting fruity tones, but for a wee heavy and a particular barrel aged one this isn't doing much for me, as decent and simple the beer is to drink.
