440ml nitro can

Pours with a dark brown body, followed by a creamy tan head, not quite as impressive visually as guinness but still, slightly less retention as u are half way through

Smell, strong chocolatly aromas, vanilla and coffee

Taste is malty, less bitterness than guinness but shares many of its traits. Hints of vanilla are quite strong and of dark coffee, nice vanilla sweetness on the finish, plus has that 'verging on chocolate stout' turkish delight sweetness

All in all a great stout, dry but well balanced to include some sweetness

Serving type: nitro-can

Pint on-tap in Gallagher's Boxty House, Dublin, Ireland (€5):
Dark brown to black with red tinges at the base. Creamy looking & still, thumb-sized head that's off-white with great retention & good lacing on the sides.

Roasted notes & earthy malts initially, some creamy notes & lactose coming through alongside some light coffee & touches of bitterness towards the end with a touch of chocolate too.

Roasted malts, a touch of coffee & the same chocolate that appeared in the aroma as well. I could detect some sweetness with hints of faint bitterness alongside some biscuit flavours.

Very smooth & goes down very easily from the start. Carbonation was very soft & the beer was quite dry with a faint bitterness that left you wanting to take another drink straight after the last.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one & it definitely grew on me as I worked my way down the glass. Lighter, smoother & less bitter than Guinness, it's is a good alternative to that one with a solid taste to back it up. Can't wait to see how it tastes by the can since it's hard to find on draught in the UK these days.

Poured from a Nitro-can into a pint glass. A nougat coloured head over a deep, dark cola body. There is lots of action beneath the surface after the intial pour. Smells of roast, burnt toast and grain. The taste is mild, with coffee and chocolate undertones mixing with the burnt toast of the nose. The mouthfeel is creamy, but seems too thin and watery for a stout. Overall, it's not too bad, but there are better options out there.
