Murphy's pours, looks and smells very similar to Guinness (Very dark with a creamy cascading head), but there is a subtle difference that you can discern very easily when compared side by side. I've had all of the main dark Irish Stouts that are readily available in my area (Guinness, Beamish, and Murphy's) and I enjoy all of them. Now for a short story of how I ran a blind taste test of all of these great brews.

So the other day, I felt like running a taste test to see which one people really enjoy. So sporting a nitro-can of each, I poured all the beers into cups with a label on the bottom of each, then I left the room and had a friend rearrange all the glasses (without looking at the bottom). We then proceeded to take blind tastes of each.

Surprisingly, Murphy's came out on top, due to it's extra creaminess. Beamish fell in the middle with Guinness not far behind with a more "sour" flavor. The five of us agreed Murphy's was the best, but there was some differences of opinion over Beamish and Guiness. When wanting a dark non-heavy stout any of the Irish stouts will quench that thirst, but when there is a choice I will always reach for a Murphy's.

Nitro can was poured into a Samuel Smith imperial pint glass.

Appearance: A one finger mocha head was poured that for the most part is still there. It is a pitch black color with no vision of anything. That is expected. Frothy lacing on the glass all the way down.

Smell: Roasted coffee, bready oats, toffee, caramel, chocolate, a little smoke, and earthy aromas.

Taste: Same as above blended well together. Very tasty for a 4% nitro beer.

Mouthfeel: Creamy smooth, lite bodied, a little chewy, some bitterness, and low to medium carbonation.

Overall: This beer can't do no wrong. Easy to drink and delicious. More please.

Serving type: nitro-can

Poured a deep, dark brown, with a ruby-tint towards the bottom of the glass. A creamy khaki head lasts throughout the beer and leave some nice lacing. The aroma is very sweet, think very dark caramel, with just a hint of burnt grain. The taste is very malty with a nice earthy hops finish. It's thinner along the style of dry stout and is just a great stout.
