Our flagship beer. Perfectly balanced with sweet, toasty malt character, smooth mouthfeel and rich copper color.

Tried this one on tap at Midland Brewing Company. Pours a darker golden, maybe slightly copper in coloring. Thin, scant white head with mild spotty lingering lacing. Aromas of faint malt, fruity hops, caramel and light nuttiness. Taste follows the nose. A little disappointing with its thin flavor and lack of complexity. Decent hit of bitterness at the finish. Smooth, mild, thin mouthfeel and decent carbonation. Fairly enjoyable, but I expected a little more from MBC’s “flagship” beer.

Gusher on opening, pours clear orange, humongous white head, eventually dissipates with some lacing. Aroma is caramel, cardboard, grass. Flavor follows, sweetish and not good.

$11.19 (Including tax and deposit)/6-pack of 12 oz cans ($ 0.155/oz) from Shottle Bop, Hancock, MI. Reviewed 8/1/18.
“CANNED ON 05/29/18” on bottom of can, stored on shelf in store. Served at 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.
Body – Light amber, clear.
Head – Large (Maximum 5.2 cm, aggressive center pour), off-white, medium density and good retention time, slooowly diminishing to an irregular eight to eleven mm ring and a complete layer.
Lacing – Poor – Just a couple of islands.
First pour – Light orange, clear.
Aroma – 3 – Faint aroma of malt.
Flavor – 3 - Begins somewhat sweet and malty with no hop flavor evident. It ends with an almost fruity tartness. No alcohol, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 - Medium, watery, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 3 – A very unremarkable brew despite that initial sweetness. I’d drink it again if it were given to me but I’ll not buy any more.

Pours a copper color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. No discernable aroma. Tastes of sweet caramel with a hint of spicy hops. Smooth and crisp.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, apricot, caramel, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, mint, grass, and herbal earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of citrus/earthy hops and dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, apricot, caramel, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, mint, grass, and herbal earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, apricot, caramel, toast, biscuit, light nuttiness, mint, grass, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of citrus/earthy hops and dark/bready malt flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance and minimal cloying flavors after the finish. Some light fruity tartness was also present on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is okay. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a solid amber ale. Good balance and robustness of citrus/earthy hops and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.
