Ale Refermented in Oak Barrels With Apricots: Aurelian Lure California Apricots were added to oak barrels containing mature sour beer. The beer was then allowed to referment to dryness. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and naturally conditioned.

500 mL bottle poured into a snifter. September 2013, Blend One.

Appearance - Pale orange body. A hint of haze. Small white head and a thin collar.

Smell - Apricots are very nice. Slightly acidic smelling. Herbal, which actually really works for this beer.

Taste - The initial apricot flavor is perfect and authentic. Then it proceeds to get sour. And more sour. Until eventually, it's just sour. Citrus sourness.

Mouthfeel - Way too sour for me. It masks the apricots. It masks everything.

Overall - Over soured. Impeccable apricot flavor, though.

Had a few pours of this at the Jester King Funk'n'Sour Fest.

I can't get over how incredible this beer smells...fresh apricot dominates the nose and you just keep coming back for another whiff!

The apricot flavor is like biting into fresh whole fruit. As with the other fruit sours JK has made, the freshness of the fruit flavor is fantastic.

This is a "next-level" type beer for JK and it's worth trading for if anyone is willing to part with a bottle of batch 1. I'm sure that it will become more plentiful with subsequent batches.

Nice sour with an apricot flavor that is nice and smooth and not overpowering

Pours a bright brassy gold - very clear. Almost no head. Almost looks like a still beverage. Smell is loaded with apricot. It blends very well with the spicy fungal yeast aromas and graininess. Tastes of juicy apricot, but I would like to taste more fruit. Earthy yeast is overwhelming. Bone dry, a bit grainy, and sour. Mouthfeel is crisp, light, and acidic. Solid beer, but comparing this to the other fruit beers from Jester King, it just falls short.

A: Hazy, appropriately apricot in color - pours with a medium-sized white head, doesn't leave much lacing but there are a few streaks

S: Sour, apricots, and exploding with Jester King funk - nicely sour with some sharp acidity and some more damp, lactic sour - lots of oak, chewy wood - juicy apricots - dry and clean overall

T: Fruity, funky, and sour - moderate amount of sour, with some sharp, lemon-like acidity, and some more damp, lactic sour - lots of funk, Jester King's yeast - damp and slightly earthy, but mostly clean - nice amount of oak - apricots, fleshy and juicy - finishes nicely dry

M: Medium body, smooth, crisp, finishes mostly dry and sour

O: This would work as a lure

This is a great sour. Jester King continues to impress with some nice sourness, funk, and a bag of apricots.

Had side by side with Fuzzy. Fantastic beer, was not expecting this beer to be so good honestly. Will defintily seek out when it gets released again! Both beers are quite different, but excelent in their own right. Peach flavors were up front while maintainig a fantastic funk and sour.

poured into HF wine stem.

Appearance: slightly opaque yellow bodied beer with lots of suspended white sediment chunks in the beer. Almost 2 full fingers of bone white head formed with many tiny little bubbles making up the head. Head drops down quickly to a ring around the outside of the glass.

Smell: Acetic sourness, lots of juicy apricots, and moderate barny musty funk. Smells really nice!

Taste: This is a 5.5/10 on the sourness scale. Nice moderate level of apricot flavor and light citrus consisting of tangerines and a hint of meyer lemon that is well matched with an almost moderate funk levels. The apricot is just a little bit bigger in term of flavor than the funk is. The funk smells different than it tastes. I am tasting more lacto notes of greek yogert and slight cheesiness; not as much barn, horse, and mustiness as the nose leads on. As this warmed up the apricot tasted juicier and the lacto funk got a little stronger.

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer with low carbonation. As the beer crosses over your tongue it becomes fairly crisp, bright, and pretty eppervescent. Finish is pretty dry as well; not fully dry, but definately better than semi dry finish.

Overall: One of my favorite things about Jester King wild ales is that the sourness is never over the top even though they are pretty acidic sour beers. According to the label, Aurelian Lure clocks in at 3.4 on the pH scale which is pretty acidic in my mind. Aurelian Lure is a post child for this fact that it is a pretty drinkable sour that is mellow in terms of perceived sourness. This is definitely a strong point of this beer. On a side note, this is my new favorite Jester King sour beer. It narrowly beats out Nocturn Chrysalis which was my favorite JK sour up until today. There is something to be said for all the sour brewers in the USA who brew thier wild ales with the use of a coolship. They are all making some really amazing wild ales. They are bringing belgium to the USA.

The aroma interestingly offers tons of jasmine, like the tea. Dried apricot, .

The flavor shifts to dried apricot throughout. The concentrated sweetness, the flavor, everything. This comes along with a complex sour quality, lactic sour included. The finish hits of green tea and drying.

It is a perplexing combination of flavors that this beer offers.

One of the best Jester King brews.

Reviewed from notes taken when it was released. Served on-draught into stemware at Jester King. Expectations are high. Cost was $8 USD for an 8 oz pour.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: None. Just a white floater ring, which recedes within 2 minutes leaving no lacing.

BODY: Cloudy deep yellow. Translucent. Nontransparent. Supple and soft-looking. No yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

Overall, it's above average looking for a sour. Not unique or special in any way, but generally appealing.

AROMA: Sour apricot - including fresh fruity character, apricot flesh, and citrusy esters. Lactobaccilus bacteria is prominent, but this aroma suggests maybe a 6/10 in terms of sourness intensity. Hay. Pear. Belgian blonde and Belgian pale malts. I don't find any true spontaneous yeast or bacterial notes (e.g. lambicus); this is fairly clinical and clean for a sour. It's nicely tart. Not acetic. Has a pleasant mellow citrusy twang.

No alcohol of off-notes are detectable.

It's quite an appealing aroma overall. Aromatic intensity is moderate. I look forward to tasting it.

TASTE/TEXTURE: Lovely apricot with fair tartness. It's fresh and fleshy, with citrusy fruity twang and zest. It's not as soft or juicy as would be ideal, but it's supple and deep. Sourness is a 6/10 in terms of intensity, which is mostly lactobacillus bacteria. It lacks the full-flavoured spontaneity of true wild lambicus/proper sour brews, but it's nice.

The Belgian pale malt base is pretty neutral, and bends easily to let the dominant fruit shine, which is apt. I do want more sourness and tartness, but this is nice for what it is. Very well balanced, but it's worth noting that this isn't a particularly intricate or complex sour, nor does it feature much subtlety in terms of flavour. The apricot is rather overt and plain, lacking any surprising nuance. I really like it, but I do have to say I hoped for more in a Jester King apricot sour.

Hops are minimally present, but vaguely fruity in character. This build is cohesive and enjoyable, but never quite tastes like it's a gestalt whole. Tasty stuff.

It's lightly smacky on the palate, but not pucker-inducing. Smooth, wet, aptly moderately carbonated, and medium-bodied. Somewhat thick. Supple. It would be much more enjoyable if it were softer and more mellow; it's a bit aggressive, actually. Not the light delicate feel you'd find the best beers in this style.

It's not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.

OVERALL: It's a tasty fruited sour, but I think the apricot could be showcased better with fuller deeper flavours. There could be more going on in terms of complexity and intricacy. Subsidiary peach notes would be nice. The mouthfeel is too heavy and not soft enough, to the beer's detriment. I'll enjoy draining my glass, but I don't think this is worth going out of your way for. An extremely drinkable and refreshing sour, but far from world-class; this still lags behind the best traditional Belgian examples of the style, but it's high praise that it even warrants comparison.

Appearance: Slightly hazed bright yellow. Head is small and white. No cap with a small collar. Minimal carbonation on the pour. A vigorous swirl produces a sizable creamy, dense, bubbly head that drops almost immediately.

Smell: Sour. Loaded with all the bugs. Lacto, pedio, and a sharp acetic push. Tons of apricot. Deeply fruity. Apricot flesh, juice, and skin. So much apricot. Deeply funky. Expected Jester King wet musty wood in the mix as well. Sharp citric push. Some lime juice and zest. Malts are incredibly light with just a hint of sweetness and some mild crackery notes.

Taste: Soured apricot. Tons of apricot flesh and juice. Jester King bug blend in full effect. Deeply citric with some solid lactic undertones. Pushes a clean white vinegar as well. Ever so slightly musty with some damp oak barrel. Some grassy elements as well. Incredibly pale malt base. Some white bread and dough. Each sip pushes the lactic base a bit more. Solid slap of lemon and lime juice and zest.

Mouthfeel: Light body that leans to medium. Minimal carbonation. Rather high astringency. Dry.

Overall: It puts the fruit in the puts the fruit in the barrel and it gets it right again.

It's crazy tart without being too aggressive. Apricot lends itself quite well to the Jester King fruited sour platform. Lacking a little dimension overall, but it's definitely one of the better apricot sours out there.

Pour is pale golden amber, faint haze, small amount of tight white head. Nose is heavy unripened apricot, rather rich pie filling esq., light grain notes, a bit perfumy, faint hay note. Taste is even more perfume, lots of apricots, a bit sweet and fleshy. Some lactic acid, faint sourness. Light body, a touch syrupy, slick, moderate carb.

Bottle pour at Shelton Brothers The Festival 2014 held at Crafted in San Pedro, CA.

Pours a murky light orange with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour with malt, grain, apricot, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour grain, apricot, and acidic flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

crisp lemon haze. fresh squeezed citrus juice

sweet sweet funk. lemon rind, tangerine

sharp, biting, and forgiving. the eeeever so soft fruit sweetness. the first taste was on my tongue for a good minute.

world class wild. i could drink this every single day for the rest of my life. it's everything I loved as a kid about sour, sour lemonade

500ml bottle of Blend 2. Poured into a snifter 11/1/2014.

A- Light hazy straw-yellow body, one finger white head with low retention time. Does not leave much lacing. Looks absolutely identical to Fen Tao, which we are drinking side by side. [4]

S- Jester King funk. Sweet apricot flesh. A bit of earth, mild lactic acid, a small bit of grainy sweetness accentuated by apricot skin. The apricots are contributing at different times to give this a nice complexity. [4.5]

F- Oak, funk, mild-moderate lactic acidity, apricot flesh up front, some earth, just ripened apricot skin. Very tasty with some complexity. [4.5]

M- Medium bodied, nicely carbonated. As with the Jester King AWAs, this is a very dry beer. Mild-moderate lactic acidity makes this a pleasant drinking experience. [4.25]

O- Nice complexity added by the sweet apricot flesh and slightly earthy apricot skin character. Very tasty beer and one of my favourites from Jester King. [4.5]

Lovely winter sun in the glass. The nose is a fruit tree and funk, but is not as big as some other fruited sours like Chez or Fou. Nicely balanced flavor between fruit, funk and pucker. Apricots and skins upfront and a bit of funk and tartness on the back. This is good, but a bit shy and understated. Thin mouthfeel and a bit of wateriness. I would like a bit more barrel and bigger fruit to add complexity and a more dynamic interplay between the flavors. Solid but not earth shattering.

Pours out a hazy golden yellow/orange. Not much white head develops, but sticks around the edge with some soapy bubbles.

The nose on this beer is tremendous bringing a load of apricot with must and grass and faint wood.

The beer delivers a lovely fruity character. The souring aspect accompanies the fruit nicely. Musty funk. Finishes dry.

So delicious it pained me to finish the bottle.
