Really fascinating beer/wine hybrid here. I never realized that I wanted a red wine couterpart to all the sparkling white wines, but this made me realize that indeed I do. And here it is

Beautiful garnet hue with a quickly dissipating head. Funk, hay and red grape skin on the nose. Taste is very lightly sour. Nice red wine notes fade quickly to a softly tart finish. This is very good but doesn’t reach greatness.

Blend 2, bottled September 2022
I have been absolutely loving what I’ve tried from Jester King so far. Their beers (especially their Wild Ales) are almost no brainers to grab when they pop up on Tavour. This one is no different and sounds like a super interesting take on a beer/wine hybrid. Let’s get into it
Pours an opaque deep reddish purple with a finger of frothy pinkish white head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose is quite funky but has lots of depth to it as well. I’m picking up on aromas of tannic red wine, dark bread, brown sugar, black pepper, sharp oak, apple cider vinegar, sharp oak, lemon zest, nutty malt, light molasses, and vanilla
It’s a bit more sharp and less sweet in taste, but still has a nice complexity to it. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting red wine vinegar, baked apple, dark bread, brown sugar, lemon juice, black pepper, dry oak, and light vanilla. The swallow brings notes of tannic red wine, baked apple, sharp oak, black pepper, molasses, caramel, dark bread, cherry skin, stone, and raw grain
A light medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a sharp beer. Finishes very dry and tannic, it’s damn refreshing
Jester King continues to absolutely slay the game. I need more from them

Purchased this beer at the brewery. Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Beautiful dark purple garnet color with a brief effervescent head and some lingering lacing. Smell and taste of spicy, smokey red wine. Oak with some sour funk. Musty, rustic. Warms well and open up. Goin well with a meal of early summer bounty from the local farmers market.

Darker garnet somewhat murky pour topped with magenta tinted ring, spotted lazy lacing. Musty red grape, vinous barrel, basement funk, old rose petals, rustic dark grain, balsamic vinegar, and black cherry skin, make up a seriously pungent and complex nose. Taste is much more simple, red merlot grapes with big musty wood and basement funk with a hint of strawberry. More acidic than tart, but well balanced with the earthy funk and rustic oak, pungent overall. The more I sip this the more I enjoy, let it warm in between sips to capture the growth

this series rules, and this beer is lights out. the first one of them i can really remember ever having fresh, great expression of merlot, so obvious this varietal specifically, which is awesome, and its bright and drinkable without being very sweet for having this much fruit in it, very very well done. blend two from the fall of this year. nice rich color, deep purple in low light, a little more pink when its bright, fizzy enough but without any head that sticks around. the nose here is incredible, lots of oak, the tannins from the grapes, hints of blueberries for sure too, minerals for the soil, this seems high terroir right away, faint black cherries and currants, light vanilla, very familiar jester king funkiness, only middle of the road it seems on acidity, perhaps slightly less complex than expected, but highly appealing, mouthwatering. the flavor is just like the nose, sparking and very light on the palate too. floral undertones, violets and roses, tannic again, quite a bit of oak but it doesnt make this heavy, way more funk than acid, but a cool mix of both. the grapes are fermented dry, and this is somewhat lighter overall than i thought it would be. great mix of real grapes in their full glory, the wood, and the funky yeasts, classic jester king in this regard. warms up really well, stays floral and summery but also sturdy on the fruit, exceptional. big thanks to my buddy for procuring and sharing, great to get to try one that i thought i had missed from one of my all time favorite breweries!
