Thanks Gunch52 for this one!
Appearance- Bright, straw orange color, with some good bottle yeast bubbles that rise and fade quickly, leaving a thin halo of big bubbles and white haze. Looks like a good bottle conditioned farmhouse ale.
Smell- Smells citrusy tart and grassy with a bit of funk. Trace amounts of aromatics linger- think flowery, earthy, and grass/hay notes, finish with a minty snap. Like sunshine in the hill country!
Taste- Sour bite at first that fades out to a herbal, then juicy, vinuous, white grape and mint cocktail character. a bit of sour pucker twang hangs out on the tongue, but is quickly overpowered by a cooling, creamy, lingering watermelon essence. I knew ahead that this was brewed with watermelon, but wow! Awesome flavor for no watermelon on the nose.
Mouthfeel- Soft and slick, and even a bit dense and sugary on the finish with the watermelon flavor. The texture works very well with all the layers of flavors.
Overall- Like a great farmhouse ale that brings a lot more to the table as it unfolds. Tart refreshing farmhouse ale at first that becomes even more refreshing with all of the flavor nuances. The PERFECT summertime beer with the incorporation of the fruit and spices. This could make you never want a shandy again. I would drink this any time an opportunity arose.
