Collaboration with Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project & Trois Dames
We’re excited to introduce Cerveza Sin Frontera, a three part collaboration between Jester King, Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project in Denver, Colorado and Brasserie Trois Dames in Sainte Croix, Switzerland. The concept behind Cerveza Sin Frontera was to brew an identical recipe, referment it in the same type of barrels (Spanish sherry) at three different locations on earth, and allow the microorganisms unique to each brewery to impart interesting and differentiating characteristics to the beer. In other words, Cerveza Sin Frontera seeks to explore the impact that mixed culture fermentation has upon an identical recipe for wort (unfermented beer). It highlights how fermentation that exists outside the world of pure culture brewers yeast has the ability to create unique beer with a sense of place.

Another beer from March Madness 2016. Gotta think this was a leftpaw contribution, given the Crooked Stave connection.
Pours an amber color. 1/3" off white head. I'm guessing the sherry barrel influenced the color. Interesting aroma, there is a maltiness to it that is more than most saisons. Instead of notes of hay and grass, it takes on a heavier grain push, like its got rye and a heavier toasted/roasted barley portion.
Taste comes up more tart, I dunno if the darker SRM hue made me expect a less sour/tart thing, but the appearance of maltiness and smells thereof don't play out in the taste, has a drier, lighter, more sour vibe. Some lighter dark fruit kind of notes. Perhaps the sherry puts out a bit of a darker wine tannic influence. Definitely interesting, had a potential epiphany, that Jester King has the most varied saisons stateside, they're kind of the Fantome of these parts. Most good, some weird, but pretty respectable even when they're weird.

Bottled December 2014; drank 9/11/15 @ Yuss Haus Mach II.
Rusty strawberry appearance.
Minimal tan head; almost no lace.
Tart strawberry nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Sweet strawberry flavors up front; mildly tart finish. A simple fruit beer; easy to drink & above average, but no complexity.

Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with medium foamy head with light retention. Aroma of tart and funky notes with light touch of honey. Taste is a mix of honey and tart funky notes with subtle barrel-aged notes. Body is about average with oily texture and good carbonation. Not bad but sweeter then I had expected.
