Jester King is quickly becoming my favorite brewery.

A: Single fingered soapy white head that displayed good retention settles to a thin soapy ring around the glass leaving little lacing in its wake. The body is a cloudy yellow with hints of orange, kinda looked like a mango!

S: Barnyard funkiness is detectable but not overpowering. Sour cherries, lemon tart, and oranges are the most dominant scents that really got my mouth watering.

T: This is definitely a sour Saison. After a few sips the sourness on the front begins to mellow allowing hints of tart cherry, lemon, and bitter citrus to present themselves. Grains and spice pull up the backend and really round out this unique entry.

M: Light bodied, extremely well carbonated, fairly dry.

O: I'm usually not a fan of sours, but this one seems to be the exception. I enjoyed this beers complexity not found from competitors. I recommend this beer to anyone who enjoys sours, or to those looking to make the leap into sour beers. Holding onto my remaining bottles to see how time will affect the flavors, hoping for the best.

Big thanks to huskermike for throwing this in as an extra. Pours a light-orange sunburst, hazy and cloudy like any saison ought to be, with a a big-bubbled, light white head that grows big and settles quick with some wet legging left behind.

A big cloud of funk blankets the entire aroma, under which lies a collage of tart fruits; apples, grape, maybe even some lemon zest. The fruits have a tartness to them, as well as a light vinous character that's floating around somewhere.

Slightly vinegary and acidic on the aroma as well - this one definitely smells like it's gonna be tart. The funk overcast is comprised of some oak, wet hay, musk, cork, and a solid handful of yeast. Pretty spot on for a saison, I'm really digging the way this smells.

The taste starts off with some damp and musky cellar-like funk at first, but a sharp tartness quickly escalates and takes over; sour apple, grapes, lemons - very acidic and vinegar like, not as vinous as the nose suggested, but there's still a bit of oak and tannin notes to be had.

There's a nice harmoniousness between the funk and the tart, masterfully balanced here, making this one super drinkable. I guess the fact that it's only 6.5% ABV helps a bit, too. The aftertaste is made up of some fading tart-turned-sweet fruits, along with a mildly wet, oaky and funky finish, dry and full of yeast. Light-medium bodied with higher carbonation.

Didn't know what to expect from this one, but I've heard good things about Jester King. So I was definitely pleasantly surprised. This was a damn good and easily drinkable saison with lots of tartness and lots of funk, especially at the moderately low ABV tag. Hell yeah!

Jester King Das Wunderkind! Sour saison. 750ml bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden honey color. Off-white head.

Aroma: Tart and funky. Starts off with freshly cut lemons and then turns to floral perfume-like. Light fruits such as green apple.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Does not taste like any sour I've had before. It's very thin and watery in the mouthfeel. You can hardly taste the sourness, or the saison characteristics that well. Lightly carbonated.

Overall: Very quaffable for a sour. Could use a slightly higher carbonation to give it a crisper mouthfeel. Was expecting a bit more taste-wise judging from the aroma, but all in all 8.5/10 and quite refreshing.

On tap at the Draught House 43rd Anniversary Party.

The beer pours a cloudy yellow color with a large white head. The aroma is full of citrus notes. I get a lot of orange and lemon character, as well as a little bit of tartness and a little bit of barnyard funk. Very nice.

The flavor is similar. The orange and lemon notes dominate the flavor, but there is also a nice acidic component which adds some sourness to the beer. The two sides of the flavor go very well together and make the beer very drinkable.

Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Thanks for sending me this one lnashsig!

750ml bottle poured into a stemmed tulip. Can’t find bottle date info but I’m sure this is quite fresh.

A: Fairly aggressive pour leaves a white one finger head that dissipates fairly quickly. After that, it’s pretty much gone. Body is a very cloudy honey peach color. Zero lacing.

S: Fruity barnyard funk! Lacto sourness. Light fruit and citrus...heavy green apple, apricot and lemon. A bit of woody oak.

T: Lovely tart sourness. Somewhat floral ...reminiscent of lilac. You get a flash of the fruit from the nose mid-palate along with grassy hops. Only a bit of the oak barrel shows up. Assertive puckering finish with pale malt biscuit in the aftertaste.

M: Light body. Overall carbonation is low but the acidic sourness makes up for it in spades, providing plenty of prickliness on the tongue. No sign of alcohol to be found.

O: The critters were busy with this one! I really enjoyed it and would love to have another bottle to share with others on a mild spring day. I bet this would pair nicely with creamy cheeses like Brie or Camembert.

Deep golden with amber highlights. Honestly the color reminds me of apple juice. Thin layer of minuscule bright white head. A bit hazy with very vibrant carbonation bubbles throughout. I get pears, apples ,earthiness, and peppery notes with an overall sweetness in the aroma. Mouth is highly carbonated, crisp, and refreshing. The front of the palate is sweet with pears and green apples. I get a bit of tartness in the finish from the souring bacteria which is a good contrast.

Big thanks to Lee for hooking me up with this one!

A: Pours a hazy golden color with orange highlights. A one finger white head forms upon pouring and reduces to a thin rung on top. Spotty lacing.

S: Definitely funky with a bit of barnyard/hay. A nice sour component with some lemon and apricot.

T: A great, tart fruit flavor hits right away with more apricot, lemon, and some green apple. A little bit of a woody/earthy flavor with nice sourness.

M: Light to medium bodied, low to medium carbonation, but drinks very easily. Had no problem drinking the entire bottle. Slightly dry finish.

O: A great beer. Almost like a gueuze with the flavor profile. Would drink this all the time if I could.
