Notes/Commercial Description:
Medium strength, dry, golden ale brewed with our farmhouse yeast, and, as its name suggests, an abundance of noble, European hops. Thoroughly hoppy, yet elegant, dry, balanced, and drinkable.

Poured into a tulip.

3.5 A: Well hazed orange brown color. Big, many fingered frothy, off-white head. Retention is about average and a decent amount of lacing is left.

3.75 S: Man, JK just loves packing their beers full of herbalness. Floral too. Wildflower, jasmine, a million different flowers that I can't name. Some dry woodiness too. Really stellar is you are big into the herb and flower thing. Still good if you aren't.

3.75 T: Again lots of herb and flower going on. Mild bitterness. Herb and flower are pretty much the only thing going on, but this is quite complex. The flavors layer on each other. I just wish I was better at picking out these specific flavors. Quite good.

3.75 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy and super smooth.

3.75 D: Really nice saison. No complaints.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty beige color ale with a generous pure white foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma of dry noble hops with light rustic malt presence and bready yeast is very enjoyable. Taste is a very nice mix of dry noble hops with nice floral undertone with great rustic malt presence and some bready yeast notes. Body is full with great carbonation. This is the type of beers I would like to have access to on a regular basis – easy drinking with plenty of character.

Saison Sunday! Noble King pours darker than expected, apricot orange. There's enough haze to make this beer look like fresh squeezed juice. The two finger soapy head is white but even has a bit of the orange tinge. It quickly falls to a finger, becoming dense, but shows good retention. There's not a lot of stick but it's a good looking beer.

This smells pretty authentic but does show a touch more sweetness than the classic Belgian brands. Appetizing orchard fruits are first to pop and in healthy doses. Peach and green apple mostly while being surrounded by soft wildflower florals and white pepper. It's a little musty, dewy. The malt base is sugar cookie driven with underlying graininess. The idea of sweetness seems to be more fruity than grainy, interesting. Bubblegum emerges with warmth.

Big fruit in the flavor again. Front to back are waves of underripe peach, Bartlett pear, minor green apple in that order of intensity. The peach picks up most on the backend. Sugar cookie and grain pick up in the middle with a touch of sweetness while the mustiness is on the periphery. I didn't pick up the noble hops on the nose but there's a firm grassy bitterness on the swallow that I am endeared to in the style while some white pepper spiciness kicks in. The grassiness alone bumps this guy a notch higher.

The finish is nice and dry with a moderately bitter linger. My only complaint, and it's a little one, is the sweetness up front, it's a little more than I prefer, not by much though. The dryness seems to pick up with each drink and the grassy bitterness grows. Highly drinkable and saliva inducing but missing that effervescent carbonation.

Jester King has done a nice job with Noble King. It has all the characteristics I desire in a saison. Orchard fruity, grassy bitter, and quenchingly drinkable. I would most likely grab this guy again in the future, not sure of the age but I'd imagine a super fresh bottle would be most excellent.
