Cellar Temp->Hennepin Glass
A ~ No eruption! The new Jester King is lookin' good. I'm used to erupting bottles, losing a full quarter of ale. Lacing is to style as is carbonation--fine & smooth. Pours a very nice Orange/Amber.
S ~ Strong Citrus & Resin notes w/ a melange of peaches, pears, & yellow apples. Slight rock candy. Great nose.
T ~ Citrus follows through w/ a big backbone of cane sugar & pale malts. Mid palette is pears, dried fruit, & resins. Finish is all heat with assorted farmhouse aromas.
Notes of honey, mint, & melon arise upon warming. The overall flavor of this beer is overall better after warming up to room temperature.
M ~ Heat is pretty prevalent. At first it is phenolic to a fault, but as it WARMS the hop flavors come out a lot more & meld with the large doses of sugar & pale malt.
D ~ I understand that JK was not going for a specific style here, but this is somewhere between a Belgian IPA & a Biere de Garde. I did not rate it as a BSPA, because it really is not one.
Let it warm!!! I had it at cellar temp, & I thought it was ho hum, but as it WARMED, the hop flavors & farmhouse characteristic arose.

Got in a trade with Cyde. 750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours very hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big pear, apple, grape, lemon zest, clove, pepper, floral, grass, light pine, hay, light funk, leather, and spicy yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and yeast ester notes, with a fair amount of malt balance; and good strength. Taste of lemon zest, pear, apple, grape, clove, pepper, bread, wheat, light honey, floral, grass, hay, leather, light funk, and earthy yeast spiciness. Light earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, light fruits, pepper, clove, floral, grass, hay, wheat, bread, light funk, and earthy yeast spiciness on the finish for a while. Nice balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast flavors with moderate hop and malt notes; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a slick, fairly crisp, and earthy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good saison style. Good balance and complexity of malt, hop, and fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.
