Notes/Commercial Description:
A hop forward beer with dank, resinous hop flavor and aroma, balanced by lightly kilned malt flavors, farmhouse yeast esters and a bit of warming alcohol. Thrash Metal Farmhouse Strong Ale is an homage to thrash metal music, which often fuels us during our daily chores at Jester King.

a beautiful golden / light copper pour with 2 fingers of head which stayed quite foamy throughout the session. smells of pepper, lemongrass, spicy yeast, banana, strawberry.. lots of nice scents, slightly funky. lots of sweet malt are present, alongside of a spicy booze heavy citrusy drink. lots of yeast, pepper, coriander, slight orange peel flavor..
medium body, nicely carbonated, a bit on the heavy/hot side.. which is AWESOME especially for the freezing cold night we're having. a wonderful saison, on the heavy side, so it's a bit abrasive, however it's a great sipper. very flavorful, with a slight dry finish.

750 mL bottle pours a very hazed, medium gold color with a tiny-bubbled white head. Average retention and very nice lacing.

Light tropical hop aroma and a bit of underlying tartness. Has a chalkiness to it...kinda like Smartees candy. Some touches of red apples and grape skins. Interesting smelling brew, the yeast has done some funky stuff here, for sure.

Definitely a nice American-made BSPA here, lots of character. Thick body and the hops are tamer than I thought they would be, maybe equal parts flavoring and bitterness. The mouthfeel is very nice...carbonation is very fine and the creaminess is awesome. I am surprised that the hops and yeast mix so well here, most times I find it to be a clashing combination. Hides the ABV well. It shows off the yeast very well and I am quite impressed by this offering. I'll buy a few more if I can find 'em, even though I dont think this one would fare well in the cellar...I fear many will try however just because of the Belgian heritage and high ABV.

Poured into a brandy snifter. Pours hazy orange with some sediment and an off-white, fluffy head and plenty of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. There is some lacing left on the side of the glass. The aroma is strongly of Farmhouse esters. There are some white wine characteristics to the aroma as well. I can also detect some hops and the malt. The taste really hits those Saison notes. There is that barnyard funk with spice and citrus. Those white wine notes are noticeable as well. There are some pine and grassy characteristics coming through from the hops as well. The hops really come through in the back end bringing a nice bitterness to the beer. There's a nice malty backbone that is grainy and sweet. It's nicely well balanced. The alcohol is present in the taste, but it is not overpowering. The body is light with abundant carbonation. The finish is slightly dry and the carbonation lends crispness. The lighter body makes what this strong ale easy to consume. This really is an excellent beer.

A: This pours a very nice dark copper orange body with a thick white head that slowly fades and leaves a lot of lace on the side of the glass.

S: There is a strong amount of malt at first and it also has a nice bit of hops. It seems very sweet and fruity too.

T: The first thing I recognize is the nice hops on the palate. The big lingers for a long time and then has a very pleasant malt taste.

M: This to me is the best part of the beer. It is so smooth and easy to drink. When I pour it into my mouth it has a nice fluffy feeling that goes down with ease. There is a tiny bit of crispness too.

O: Just another very solid beer released by Jester King. If you see this, def get it!

The beer pours a light golden yellow with no head. The nose is outstanding with big notes of yeast, citrus fruit, and sugary sweetness. The taste doesn't translate with an overly hoppy, slightly gross aftertaste. I honestly don't like the intense hoppiness of this beer, it doesn't stay as clean as its nose. Overal I probably won't try this beer again, not my style.

A: Orange/copper with very vigorous white head that dissipates quickly but leaves a lot of lacing
S: Sour and funky, citrusy, very faintly hoppy
T: Very slightly sour on the forefront – not as much as the nose would make you expect – nicely spicy, very light on the malt flavors and the bitterness; not sweet but not bitter, very well balanced
M: Tingly, smooth
D: Very drinkable, and would be very nice on a hot day.

Appearance: Like all of the Jester King beers, this one is a great looker, with the clear amber liquid capped by a massive head that leaves copious amounts of lace behind

Smell: A combination of the spicy yeast esters and piney hops

Taste: The hops are there from the outset, with a resinous, rotting pineapple character that is joined by the spicy yeast character that becomes quite peppery, in the middle; after the swallow, the spice and resins build to a crescendo that tingles the tongue

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with prickly carbonation; a hint of warmth in the gullet

Overall: Like Unibroue, many of the Jester King beers coverge in the mind due to the yeast they are using but this brewery still manages to create some very interesting brews; this is a very nice one with some powerful flavors

750ml bottle into an unmarked tulip glass.

Thrash Metal displays a murky, yet brightly colored goldenrod body with a tall cap of off-white foam. Lacing sticks to the edges of the glass. Aroma is rife with notes of tropical fruit, pine, and citrus from the dry-hopping. Belgian esters are phenolic and spicy in the background with a hint of booze chiming in with each sniff.

The flavor matches the aroma fairly well, with big, juicy bursts of orange flesh, pineapple, and mango. The Kent Golding hops are spicy and sharp, distinct yet juxtaposed nicely against the pungent, spicy Farmhouse yeast flavor. The booze is a bit unchecked, here, but it's forgivable. Mouthfeel is creamy thanks to the malted wheat, but spritzy with carbonation all the same. Finishes with a lingering alcohol and phenolic flavor. Overall, a unique offering from Jester King. Definitely a special occasion beer, and worth the effort to obtain.

Pours a nice thick dense almost white head. Golden hazy orange body. A slight touch of lacing and the alcohol legs are quite nice. Head settles to a touch more than a cap.

Am I smelling an IPA or a farmhouse ale? The balance between the two are great. The hops come through with a nice pine, orange zest, sweet citrus, and white grapefruit aroma. A bready maltiness, faint floral, lemons, white grapes, and fruity yeast esters as well.

Creamy orange, light pine, white pepper, and rye bread flavors. Drys out nicely on the backend much like good ipa's/saison's do. The negative thing about that here is the bitterness from the hops and both the saison peppery dry finish clash. Some more hop flavors or sweet malts on the finish would help smooth this out. The aftertaste lingers with a light touch of pine, orange, and wild flower honey (not sticky sweet) that sits on the back of the tongue. A nice full-bodied beer which reveals hardly any alcohol at all. A quick alcohol bite on the middle of the palate but is shoved aside right away.

A truly unique experience here! Very much the farmhouse/saison style blends really nicely with a west coast style DIPA. It seems like a perfect marriage between the two. For me I would like it to lean a little more towards the IPA side. (But then again I am a Hophead) A hit more hop flavor and aroma would've totally blown me away, but I'm still thoroughly impressed. I think the balance is almost spot on. (the finish is my only slight complaint) I have not had a beer like this before. Some farmhouse/saison beers claim to be hopped up, but they can't say that after Thrash Metal has smashed them over the head. Another awesome brew from Jester King!
