Notes/Commercial Description:
“Provision Ale” is a rough translation of the French term “bière de provision“, which was sometimes used to describe special beers that were suitable for extended storage and aging. Brewed from relatively simple, straightforward ingredients, Mad Meg is golden colored and quite strong, at over 9% ABV. Its palate intertwines delicate farmhouse esters with earthy, spicy hops and clean malt flavors. The name “Mad Meg”, refers to a peasant woman from Flemish folklore, also known as “Dulle Griet” or “Dull Gret”, who leads an army of women to pillage hell. She’s famously depicted in Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s 1562 painting by the same name.

750ml. Picked up in Columbia SC. Foggy gold pour, three fingers of white head that retains very well.

Aroma, bright and yeasty, citrus zest. Light bready malt.

Taste, Lemon zest and a very herb forward. Very light grainy malt and hay. A nice cutting, again herbal, bitter hop finish.

Body is on the light side of medium, high end carbonation wise. Feels nice and lively, but also a bit warm for a Saison. Would be better served being about 2% lower.
First brew from these guys and I must say this is very good. Would be eager to try some more.

750 mL bottle poured into a tulip

A- A slightly hazy golden orange color with a four finger fluffy white head.

S- Wheat, tart lemons, faint funk, some earthy hops, some sweet malts.

T- Tart lemons, funk, wheat, some sweet malts, peppercorns, earth hops, some grass.

M- Fairly smooth, dry, medium body.

O- An interesting beer that I find enjoyable. Not sure if I would pick this up again, but it has me excited to try other beers from Jester King.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a jester king tulip glass. Purchased in north providence ri.

A- pours a very hazy orange body with a fluffy white head that reduces slowly and leaves thick lacing.

S- lots of fruity esters.. Banana, apple, citrus rind. Barnyard funk, Belgian spices, faint tartness.

T- starts off with an odd combination of subdued hops and banana and cloves, this gives way to spices and citrus. Odd

M- medium body and carbonation

Overall decent.. At best. Wanted more funk and tartness, I expect more from jester king.
