Sample at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Smokey, peppery and roasty aroma, balanced by sweetish malty notes, lovely. Sweet, malty and roasty flavour, the smokey and peppery notes are fairly moderate, the coffee notes linger in the aftertaste. A pretty impressive beer.

Poured from can into tulip, good 3 finger dark tan/brown head, great retention and lacing. Jet black and syrupy going in the glass, no light passes thru. Big roast on the nose, some coffee notes, and an underlying earthiness (which I am hoping is the chipotle). Coffee is up front on taste, not your normal stout, no acrid malt here, creamy coffee, chocolate, caramel and the spice comes in the middle and carries thru the end. On finish you are left with a creamy coffee sensation in your mouth with a little heat. This is not in your face heat, but enough heat/earthiness to cut thru the rest of the beer. There is a lingering smokiness/earthiness in the back of your throat. Very nice beer. Regretting sharing 2 of these with my daughter (no not really but will miss them)

Its hard for me to be critical of any Jester King offering. However, I feel I'm always forced to judge a beer on what it "claims" to be - in this case: an oatmeal stout with chipotle peppers and coffee added.
The second variant of this beer - released 2020 - is all coffee and very little chipotle. That said, I feel "spicy peppers" are often a tough flavor profile to incorporate into a beer. They either end up being unnoticed (as is the case with this) or WAY to forward that they ruin the brew.
To this day there are only a few stouts with chipotle peppers that I have personally had, that are perfectly executed - Prairie Bomb, Jackie O's (BA) Oro Negro & Perennial Abraxas.
