Poured into a tall chalice black with very little head. At first I worried it was flat, but it's not. The second pour gave a little more of a head. The scent is strong of capachino coffee. A little smoke malt scent in there as weel. The taste is very complex. First thing that hits the palette is the coffee. Alot of different coffee flavors. Then the smoked malts show up followed by the chipotle. This is a very warm ale. Would go great on a cold dark night.

750 ml bottle poured into a Gouden Carolus chalice. Thanks Cheesemoose! Tudor brown head, moderate retention on a black body. Aroma includes coffee, chocolate, toasted malt, molasses, some caramel malt and a hint of vanilla. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Tastes follows suit with the aromas. Interesting how this yeast strain works with an imperial stout base. Unique and delicious.

I love kop-luwak infused imperial stouts so this was a must-try for me. 750ml bottle poured into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter.

Pours pitch black with a .5 finger rising mocha head that hangs around. Lacing is spotty and sparse with decent cling. Thick oil legs coat the glass. Very nice.

Nose is big notes of kopi... my favorite! Some fudge, chocolate, molasses and chipotle spice round out the flavors. Aromatic and very enticing.

Opens chocolate, prunes, kopi coffee, plum sweetness, and cocoa. Chipotle peppers sting a bit in the background providing some nice character. Some roasted malt and molasses sweetness finish things off. Aftertaste of chocolate, fudge, and coffee. Chipotle is detectable right till the very end. I really like this.

Medium to full bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Oily and slick in the mouth with some warmth going down. Messy finish with a linger, boozy aftertaste. Super smooth.

For me, its hard to go wrong when it comes to a kopi beer and this is no different. The chipotle presence adds a different and appreciated dimension and the slick, smooth feel rounds things out beautifully. Definitely a sipper but one that I'd be happy to sip on all night long.

A: This beer pours a very dark motor oil black with a thin dark tan head, that quickly fades to nothing more than a ring around the glass.

S: A very strong smell of alcohol, some roasted malt, coffee and even a little bit of chocolate.

T: The flavor is just amazing! Just like the smell it has a delicious alcohol bite, which quickly fades to a chocolate and roasted malt/ coffee. flavor.

M: This beer goes down nice, with a slight warmth on the back of the mouth and down the throat.

O: Just an outstanding beer. Jester King and Mikkeller have absolutely knocked this one out of the part.

not sure what else you could really do to make this beer better, its near perfect, although I haven't had the whiskey version, so I may someday stand corrected. this pours an inky dark color, not quite black, with dark brown bubbles along the edges of the glass and not much else for head. the nose is real complex, smoked malt, or maybe just smoke from the peppers, hot pepper, black coffee, and raw dark chocolate. its a grand symphony in the nose really. the flavor is equally vibrant and orchestral. it starts with the coffee and the smoke, a nice and new combination, then the chipotles come in, not super spicy, but very flavorful. like Mexican hot chocolate, it leaves a mild warmth in my throat that is cured only by the sweetness in the finish. bitter cocoa and nearly burnt malts weave in and out as well, there is just so much going on here. the body is impossibly full, with very little carbonation. its a bottle to share for sure, although definitely tasty enough to consume alone. im amazed how well hidden the alcohol is, and how nice the peppers fit in. the finish is probably the most bizarre part of this, it taste like the end of a cigar, when your mouth is all coated from the smoke, and it almost hurts. its got that same deep set flavor penetration and smoke property. ive never experience anything like it in a beer before. some say I am too in love with mikkeller to objectively review the beers, but this is living proof that im not crazy. this beer is world class.

750ml bottle
Hill Farmstead wine glass

A: Pours a really deep deep brown. Almost black in color. Some reddish hues around the edges. Bottle was under carbonated, like others have mentioned. Pretty much the only knock on appearance is that. I did get a thin line of tan head around edges. Not leaving a lot of lacing even with a swirl.

S: Tons of coffee on the nose. Smell some Chiptole peppers coming through that body. There is some dark fruit under there too as well as some chocolate and roast. Really nice nose.

T: On the tip of the tongue you get that amazing bitter coffee flavor. Really high quality brewed coffee flavor. There is also a tingle of that pepper there too. As the sip continues, you get a nice smooth mid palate due to those oats. Chocolate. More roast coffee. And the pepper tingle comes up again in the back of the throat. Really nice.

M: It's full bodied. Carbonation issues.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Thanks to twiggamortis420 for this bottle!

I dunno why, but this sounds like a Zappa album to me... Anyway, this stuff pours a deep, brackish black-brown topped by a finger of golden brown foam. The nose comprises rich cocoa, light booze, blackly-roasted malts, char, and dry, fruity coffee. It's everything a smoked coffee stout oughta be, though the slight absence of pepper character is somewhat disappointing, even if only minorly so. The taste rectifies this, reprising all of the elements of the smell and including a generous amount of pepper, both flesh and a mild bit of heat, for our collective tasting pleasure. The body is a solid medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a lightly chewy feel. Overall, a damn fine imperial stout, one whose various components somehow find a way to cooperate and not bicker and clash at all hours of the night. I need to get more of this...
