Funk and tartness abound in this dry, golden, “old” saison aged for months in oak barrels. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and naturally carbonated through re-fermentation in the bottle.

L: Bright and hazy golden/amber with a decent foamy, white head on top. Very good lacing, no carbonation bubbles.

A: Big funky, earthy, fruit notes, some pilsner malt character, a little bit of a honey-like character, and some barrel notes as well. Very complex, and very intense.

T/M: Starts off gently, and then a crescendo of sourness comes in with tart fruitiness, big funky brett notes, good neutral malt balance, and some slightly peppery yeast notes. The mouthfeel is light, but it is lightly carbonated and comes off as very smooth, and not the least bit to sour.

Overall, an incredible sour saison. Unbelievably refreshing, and packed with big, tart, fruity, and funky flavors. I would love to have regular access to this breweries beers.

Served on-tap at Jester King on 2/1/14 into a small Jester King wine glass. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance: Opaque golden body, a small and loose head that persists quite a while.

Smell: Wow. That smells like blue cheese. Blue. Cheese. Can't say I was expecting that. If I had to be more specific, I'd say Roquefort Papillon, because of the fruity (raspberry?) hints that are present as well.

Taste: Yep, that nose didn't lie. This is blue cheese in beer form. Tart in a lemon juice kind of way, but not mouth-puckering. A relatively prominent maltiness is apparent too. Delicious, if you like blue cheese (I love it).

Mouthfeel: On the flatter side of carbonated, but enough for the beer. This sticks around in the mouth for a while.

Overall: Really unique, like so much that Jester King does, and I'm glad I tried it. I imagine I'll continue to seek it out, I really enjoyed the experience, as strange as it was.

Served from a 750 bottle into a stemmed Hill Farmstead tulip. Cellar temp.

Appearance- Crystal clear golden color with quick foamy white head that left some nice lacing.

Smell-Funky yeast, lemons, green grapes, grass, light oak. Real nice and earthy.

Taste-Lemons, light cider vinegar, green apples, funked up oak, vanilla, list goes on and on. Nicely tart and funky with fruit forward flavors and a nice bitterness at the end. Reminds me of a white wine.

Mouthfeel- Pretty well carbonated with a super light body. Very refreshing and easy to drink.

Overall-Real nice oak aged tart saison. Super light which is great and not too yeasty. Greast saison.
