Got in a trade with Cyde. 750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass; no bottle dating, but was from the bottle release in early 2013. Pours very hazy golden amber color with a 3 finger dense and fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big orange zest, grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine, peach, lemon zest, floral, pine, pepper, grass, clove, light cedar, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hops, spicy yeast, and brett notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon zest, floral, grass, pepper, clove, pine, light cedar, and earthy yeast spiciness. Fair amount of pine bitterness and slight earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest, tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, peach, floral, grass, pepper, clove, pine, light cedar, and earthy yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of hop, yeast, and brett flavors; with a great malt/spicy ester balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent hoppy brett saison! Great balance and complexity of hop, yeast, and brett flavors; and very smooth to drink for 8%. The cedar aging was barely noticeable, but it wasn’t a determining factor. A highly enjoyable offering.

Poured into wine glass. Pours hazy orange with a huge white frothy head. Smell is peppery, citrusy hops, oak, some orange, some lavander, very funky. Tastes is very earthy, lots of Saison funk, plenty of juicy west coast hops, tons of cedar flavor, some subtle citrus fruit, again I bet lavander, some rosemary. Perfect amount of carbonation. This beer is certainly very complex, hoppy but funky, the cedar comes through very nicely but doesn't over power the farmhouse flavors. The hops are also perfectly balanced. S glad I got to try this. A unique brew that exceeded my expectations .

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter at fridge-cellar temperature. Unfortunately, this is my last Jester King bottle in my stash.

L – Cloudy deep gold color with an everlasting 4-finger, creamy, frothy, cream-colored head. Amazing retention and phenomenal lacing. Looks fantastic.

S – There is so much going on here that it’s insane. I’m getting a bit of caramel malt, some peppery yeast, some funky Brett, a bunch of hops with orange, grapefruit, pine, resinous, and mango aromas, and a whole ton of cedar. The cedar really gives it a completely unique aroma that I haven’t smelled in a beer before. I’m sure there are other cedar-aged beers out there, but Jester King is a ground-breaker in my experience in this category.

T – It starts off sweet for just a moment with caramel malt and then rockets into spicy, peppery yeast and bitter grapefruit, pine, and mango hops. As the bitterness is building, woody, earthy, and slightly spicy cedar appears. After the wood fades, grapefruit and pine bitterness returns. There’s a touch of barnyard funk that shows up at the very finish. Very tasty.

F – Medium-bodied, great carbonation, a creamy, sticky, and mouth-coating feel, and an earthy, woody, bitter, spicy, and very dry finish. Tons of flavors mingle together at the finish and linger for a while such as earthy wood, spicy yeast, and bitter hops. All of those flavors pair well with the touch of throat-warmth from the alcohol.

O – This beer is fantastic. It has lots of elements of good saisons that I’ve had plus the additions of lots of American hops and cedar. It’s not one of Jester King’s most sessionable saisons but it’s certainly one of their more complex ones. Even with the higher ABV for a beer of this style, it’s still definitely drinkable. This is a really stellar beer from JK, and I hope to have more from them in the future.

Thanks willandperry! Love me some Jester King. Batch #2.

Appearance. Pours a hazy gold with 4, yes 4 fingers of white head that lasts a good while and leaves some nice lace behind.

Smell. Cedar, Tropical fruits (mango and papaya mainly), pine and yellow grapefruit rind. Very aromatic and complex.

Taste. Sweet yellow grapefruits and cedar, a bit of melon and tropical fruit. Really not getting much else, but not much else is needed.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, medium carbonation.

Overall. Very interesting and again, very aromatic.

From Leura.

A - lovely .... Golden haze, fluffy wonderful head, lace to die for.

S - sour, earthy hops, tropics

T - integrated citrus, pineapple, funk, Brett, hint of pine, balanced not overpowering hops...

M - zesty, well carbonated, alcohol well hidden.

O - sensational brew.... Take a Saison recipe, and amp it up with hop and barrel notes... Not as dry as other JK beers I have had, and on the money. Delight to drink.

This is my second bottle of this in some ways I think that's all I need to say on this review as its def in a world of its own but ill explain a little more it pours a slight hazed golden hue with the fluffiest four finger ever rising head and stacks of clingy lacing everywhere absolutely gorgeous looking, the smell is pineapple, piney hops,Brett, funk and citrus beautiful balance, the mouthfeel is medium bodied with minimal carbonation and the taste is sublime with tastes of piney bitter hops, citrus, pineapple,Brett, farmhouse funk a slight touch if cedar and finished with a mandarin and piney hop bitterness and overall I love this drop its in a world of its own and now that I've drank my fair share of it time to try the rest I got left in my fridge cheers.
