Had this at the brewery back in... April or so, bought the bottle a few months back, can't really recall when but I'd guess early June. Finally got around to cracking it.
Chilled 25.4 oz Euro-style bomber into a JK 33 cl tulip. Bottle reads Batch #1 January 2013.
Look- Well, to start off, this one was a major gusher. It's been in the fridge for the better part of six months, didn't really expect a mini-volcano. Beer itself is a hazed straw color, pours with two fingers of loose foam that settles quick. Nice lacing.
Smell- Lightly sour, reminds me of a dry cider. Predominantly woody, some straw, light smoke. Not much else comes through, but it's nice.
Taste- Mellow, grainy, woody, light smoke and lots of pecan. Surprising amount of pecan actually, very distinctive but not overbearing. Sharper as it warms, dry but not bone dry, has some body and a light sweetness. Ginger, lemongrass, white tea, orange pith. More citrus comes out as it sits for a while, blends with the sour and smooths out. Finishes mellow, more wood and light dry toast. Quite good, but subtle.
Mouthfeel- Full for the style, moderate carbonation. Smooth, almost creamy. Moderate acidity comes out midway through. Dry-ish, ciderlike, but heftier, jucier than typical. Unusual for the style, but I find myself preferring it.
Overall- Not something I'd pick up everday, or every year. but above-average drinkability and different enough to stand out. Absolutely worth trying, and based on my experience it's worth holding onto for a bit.
