Think this makes a fitting beer to crack on the first hour of Christmas. Received in a trade and poured into my Duvel tulip. This is Batch 2.
A - Pours a glorious, vibrant raspberry red not quite crystal clear with a beautiful one finger pinkish red head that fades rather quickly. No lacing or that stuff, but, kind of to be expected.
S - Ohhh yes. Yes. Yes! I sound like that damn Herbal Essences shampoo commercial as I take a deep breathe. Glorious raspberries, pure and sweet like burying my face in a fresh picked box of berries. Very light jam notes. Not sweet, nor is this overly tart. It smells like a raspberry coulis.
T - Please, please be as good as the nose...Not quite, but damn close. Where to begin. Loads of raspberry here, tart berry slams the pallet first with some green tart seed notes, skin, then the sweet fruit aspects come through with a touch of sweetness. I can't stress enough how much this tastes like raspberry coulis. There is some light funkiness towards the finish that is overpowered by the return of tart red raspberries. This is leaps and bounds better than say, Allagash Coolship Red. The raspberry is so bright...so not typical for American sours. This is Cantillon level quality. I really cannot think of anything more I would like on the taste.
M - Mouthfeel is nice and dry, crisp. Carbonation is just wonderful, spot on for the style. Each sip leaves me craving another. Tart, but not enamel scraping.
O - Overall this beer is just delicious...and the nose, the nose is incredible. This was worth the wait. Merry Christmas to me.
