Was really looking forward to checking out Jester King's new taproom having heard such amazing things about it. When you first drive up it is really impressive. Huge barn/brewery on the left and a large pavilion off to the left, connected to the pizza shop. Walking up to the brewery it really strikes you how beautiful the setting really is. Lots of stone, trees and picnic tables scattered amongst them. All of this lends itself to making an incredible atmosphere to drink beers in. We grabbed a table in the shade and just enjoyed the natural environment. Some of the other people should really learn to control their kids as they were really hurting others enjoyment but we tried not to let that bother us to much. Quality was quite high. As I said earlier the space is amazing while the beers are served in nice wine glasses. Service was solid all around, the initial wait was a bit much since they didn't really have a defined line and people just kept walking past us to make their own. Selection was great, both in house and to go. I love that they post the menu's on their website so I could plan out a few of the beers I was looking to try. I didn't try the food as I was still full from my Franklin BBQ lunch, humble brag, so I didn't try the pizza but from what I saw it looked excellent. Prices were more than reasonable, both the drafts and bottles to go. Overall an absolutely amazing place to have a beer, especially theirs. I would love to have this place around me. I will definitely return the next time I am in Austin.

Not enough shade for Texas summers, but during milder weather it's a joy to be on the grounds. Friendliness of staff is patchy -- from slightly put-out to super nice (the former being, oddly, some of the order takers and the latter being workers like the empty glass retriever and hand stamper). Can't really fault them for being so busy that lines take a long time, but certainly would like all the staff to be as nice and friendly and helpful as some of them are.

Also their awareness and accommodation of novice visitors/beer enthusiasts is similarly lacking. If at all possible, I'd highly, highly recommend making your first visit with someone who knows the ropes, otherwise you will likely feel like you're slowing down an already overburdened system. I'll definitely return, and look forward to it, but I feel like I'm a lot more on my own than I should be in terms of enjoying my time there as a newcomer on his own. Great sour-style beer and pleasant hill country, farmhouse atmosphere, with a top-notch pizza place basically on the same grounds, it's just the learning curve of being a helpful patron is a little more than I expected or would hope, though some really friendly staff can be found there.

Great place in Austin making some very interesting brews in the wild/traditional farmhouse style as well as experimenting with everything. Definitely worth checking out for the Hill Country views, great beers, and truly passionate employees and brewers here. The on-site pizza place makes some great pies and their guest taps and bottles are truly exceptional.

Jester King is truly the mecca of craft beer in Texas. Obviously, JK specializes in sour beer, so the average macro-brew drinker is going to struggle to enjoy their beer, but JK smartly brings in beers from other breweries that are much tamer than their farmhouse ales. That's only part of what makes it a cool place for all to enjoy. The location is unbeatable, and the rustic farm setting in the outskirts of the Texas hill country work hand-in-hand with giving their beers a framework of "place", something the brewery is very proud of and rightly so. Also, JK's bottle shop allows you to buy their beers to go as well as a huge list of Texas, American-made and imported beers that tend to exist in the sour/farmhouse ale/lambic family ... though if you scan their inventory closely, you can find something for almost any beer drinker, and chances are very good that JK's bottle shop is the only place in Texas you'll be able to find that beer.

Add in the fact that they're side-by-side with Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza, which also has a cool Texas-oriented craft beer selection, and you have a craft beer nirvana perfect for an all-day excursion.

Oh ... and they're dog friendly, so bring your dog!

The only caveat: It's basically outdoors. Between JK and Stanley's Pizza, they do a good job of offering shade, fans and misters to help keep you cool, and if the heat is really beating you up, the brewery tour lets you get in their barrel room which is in the 60s, a great break from the Texas sun. But the bottomline is if you're susceptible to the elements, time your visit to JK during the fall/winter/spring when the outside weather fits your liking.
