A 500ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2011. The label explains that the name is taken from Yorkshire dialect for a hedgehog (pricky back urchin).

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A slightly hazy golden colour with visible sediment and good carbonation. Produces a small head of white foam that disappears after a minute or two. Bottle residue is thick and chunky - clearly indicating that this is conditioned with live yeast. Aroma of light malt with stacks of leafy aromatic hops. Floral and citrus notes abound, underpinned by yeasty esters.

Tastes of pale grainy malt with a tangy bitter finish. Notes of yeast, esters and plenty of citrus hops. A dry, hoppy bitterness upon swallowing, although the dominant flavour is aromatic. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly - both carbonation and hops add to the sensation. Slightly astringent. Aftertaste of yeast and citrus.

Excellent - light and flavoursome. The live yeast adds extra depth to the character. This is highly drinkable and I would gladly sink a few on a hot day. Recommended.

Hand-pulled half-pint in my local 'Spoons': 6th Nov 13.

Poured a golden colour with a white head that produced some good lacing as the beer level fell in the glass.

Mild smell: some floral hops notes and pale malts maybe, but nothing strong.

The taste is also fairly subtle: again floral hops, more fruity in the mouth though and the malts gave a slightly sweet flavour to the blend. OK and an ideal session ale, not going to upset anyone: it isn't going to excite your taste buds either.
